Craftsman Red paint match

I spent alot of time looking on here for a match for Craftsman red. I found out that Rustoleum "Regal Red" is as close as I could get at homedepot.

This is a HF paper towel holder and can/driver holder painted with two coats of Regal Red

With my recent experience with Rustoleum spray cans, I think I'll pass. Any other brand will be close enough for me. Just say 'no'.

Safety Red is also very close, if a touch dark. I am referring to the non-spray type.

I think Regal Red, Safety Red, and Sunrise Red match Snap-on pretty well also.

Rustoleum spray cans with there new nozzle has not been working well for me. I end up with more paint sitting in the depression on top of the can, just below the nozzle, and then it's running down the side of the can, onto my fingers.....not on just one can but numerious. I'll paint them blue with Krylon if I have to, but no more Rustoleum. I've wasted more money with this stuff running down my hands. I'm done.

I have a red Craftsman box made by Waterloo so I contacted them to see if they sell a touch up paint here is what they have.
RED
M11586 – .2oz bottle - $13.17
M2044 – 12oz spray can - $16.91
GREY for the drawers.
M15363 - .2oz bottle - $13.17
M15632 – 12oz spray can - $16.91
Has anyone tryied this paint? I had contacted them before I read these posts so I might just try Rustoleum "Regal Red".

I bought Rusto pro enamel black to paint my wheels. Looked fantastic. Then I cleared over it with Rusto enamel clear. It checked & lifted about ten minutes after spraying it.. Like it was laquer on enamel. A perfect paint job shot to hell! After trying different colors and even regular grade black Rusto I determined it is the clear causing the problem not the paint. Thought it was pro paint reacting with regular clear. Even tried wheel clear, also expensive and worthless.

I called Rusto and asked them why thier clear wasnt compatible with any of thier own paint?

I was told they were unaware of any issues. Took paint number. oh'boy!..When asked if thier was anything else they could help with. I stated unless he was coming to my home and sanding thier ****** paint off all 4 of my wheels theres nothing else he can do.

Now I had to wait till this **** cured so I can sand it. Then 2 days of sanding was bs.
I told my wife if I ever try to buy a can of Rusto again,take it from me and beat my brains out with it.

I was a professional hand sprayer for Guardian Automotive Trim many yrs. I sprayed new car parts including grills,dashes,tail light bezels,interior trim etc.. I sprayed grills for new GM's,FORD,CHRY,Benz,Toy,Mazda,Nissan you name it we supplied parts for it. Guardian is one of the biggest OEM trim supply Co. in the world. Glass/chrome/Interior/Exterior.

I can paint when paint is even half way decent. As far as home owner spray paint goes the best I've found is Dutchboy paint. Its hard to find anymore. K-mart used to carry it but not sure anymore. Plasticoat allows rust to penetrate so its worthless protection.
EPA regulation is a big reason paints **** these days. Anything that was good in it kills us in 60 yrs rather were ready to go or not....

I have had this problem as well. Following the manufacturers advice I have been able to clear coat without issue if: A) I do it within 30 minutes of spraying the base coat or B) I wait a minimum of 3 days between base and clear coats.

You will also experience these lifting issues if you try to add more base coat on a 3-hour old paint job.

Rustolium is obviously lying to you if they say they don't know of any issues because it is stated right on the can!

My issue with the spray valves is that they act more like spray foam valves. If you don't use the paint up all at once, you might as well toss it.

But to the OP, very nice paint job!

I have found that the Valspar Huskee Red is a very close match to Craftsman tool boxes. BTW, I think that the Valspar is much better paint than the Rustoleum or Krylon.

I used the Rusto pro grade Safety red on my Matco bottom box, after priming with the pro grey primer, 2 coats with some steel wool in between.
I had zero issues with the nozzles, and the paint came out great where the surface was smooth. I should have taken more time on my prep.
But once it cures I have zero issues with it, and it matches my older Mac top box very well.
Much better than the Regal red.

Is this charcoal grey? I've been looking for paint to match the drawers on my Craftsman boxes, they're not black, but dark grey (charcoal).

When I said it lifted about ten minutes after sprying them I meant ten min after I stopped clearing them. Its a reaction between its own chemicals if it cant even handle a second coat from the same can untill 3 days later. lol

It was several days after spraying them when I cleared them. I always sand between coats so the paint sticks much better so it was cured very well. Never had paint lift like rusto pro except when I was young and sprayed lacquer over enamel not knowing better. That is a chemical reaction too. They have to know theres issues like you said.

But glad you figured Rusto's lifting issue out enough to trust it Timthetoolman. I wont buy it again if its something I'll be clearing. I dont want to sand anymore than I need too. I'll see how well the resto uncleared "unprofessional" grade paint holds up on my wheels. I'm sure I'll be repainting them next summer.
It was like glass untill it was cleared though. Also I've used rusto for decades without issues. I never used their pro before and wish I had'nt.
