You have to check. If they are Evercraft you will pay to much (even for US you will pay to much.) Nothing wrong with Taiwan tools, but why pay a ton more for the NAPA name.

Napa brand tools(Danaher) used to be USA, decent quality same as Allen and Cman. but started about 2 years ago, it pretty much all turned to import.

The cellophane around the box makes me think Asian import, but they're probably pretty decent tools though.

Yeah, didn't think about that. I don't see USA anywhere in any of the photos though and typically USA made tools are displayed loud and proud on the front. Pobably an import, but a nice set. I am trying to build a nice USA made socket selection, so I will skip if import.

Well for one, I like the fact that it has a storage box to keep them in. That is a decent price shipped. Now if you are in store, do you save on shipping? Just a thought.

I have a pear head from 7 years ago that said NAPA. I was young at the time and the NAPA guy didnt want to sell me it because it was too expensive for me (that's what he said.)

A few days earlier I bought my first tool truck items from the Mac tool truck, a 8,9, and 10mm socket for 36 dollars! I was no stranger then to expensive tools.

I have that set, its well worth the money. Its taiwan but you wont care once you use them. I only wish there was a set in 1/2 inch drive. Gearwrench sells the 1/2 inch drive set equivalent to those but its not as complete as these sets.

The biggest problem with the warranty on those is that napa doesn't sell those sockets individually as far as I know. I have a set of chasing taps from napa that I tried to get a replacement for one I wore out. They guy behind the counter called corporate numerous times and I finally gave up trying to get one. I was willing to pay for the replacement. My guess is that with these sockets they will warranty them out with one of their nht line of sockets but it might be painful.

It is a nice set and has alot of bang for the buck, but I don't know if I should worry abut warrently replacement if it would ever come to that. I guess as long as NAPA would give me a 6 pt socket on the same size I would be happy. I really don't need the ratchet as I have a 1/4" ratchet already but to get all the sockets in metric and SAE in std. and deep well and the extensions and the extras is a good deal. I don't know if I should stick with american and buy this USA made Craftsman set, however it is less bang for the buck and if I ever need to get the socket warrentied it would be replaced with a foreign made socket now anyway.

In my opinion that napa set is pretty much the same quality as the last of the USA craftsman's if not better. That ratchet in the napa set is pretty good as well, its not my favorite but its smooth and feels strong. The case makes the napa set in my opinion. Its really well organized.

I see they offer a similar set in 3/8". Do you have any experience with that set? Do you keep he tools inthe case? I would be tempted to pull them out and put them in my tool box.

I;ve never had a problem with NAPA hand tools.

I picked up the hot deal crowfoot wrech sets last month and have used them repeatedly with no issues. Same with a breaker bar set I bought years ago. Both Taiwan COO.

Some of their items can be over priced or you can find an = or better tool elsewhere, but they do have some niche products that are good finds.

The new quarterly (Q2) "big boy flyer" just came out on April 1 so take a look at that as well (it's the big 11x17 bound multi-page flyer for the shops--not the ****** small flyer for the diy'er) and it can be found at every napa. You just have to ask for it.

I have both the 3/8 and 1/4 inch sets. Both are equally good. I have a 1/4 and 3/8 craftsman set and I have another set of Armstrong's I got from Cripe as well. I always reach for the napa sets though. Through Cripe they combine shipping pretty good so I'd buy them both at the same time. These sets probably were probably around $100 each from napa.

I keep them in the cases and just toss the cases in the bottom cabinet in my box. For me I like the case because I lay it out on my service cart where I can have all of the sizes right at hand. Me personally I am bad about putting the tools back when I'm in the middle of something. I find with the case sitting right there I just plop the socket right back in its spot after I'm done. I usually spend more time on a job looking for lost tools than actually using them. Its a bad habit but tough to break.

These sets are in the napa sale flyer right now 50% off. $48.50 for the 1/4 inch drive and $64.50 for the 3/8. So Cripe is a little cheaper.

I have a Craftsman set with both 6 and 12 pt in 1/4" and 3/8" but only std depth. So I was looking for deep well and came across these sets. I would put the Craftsman set in my truck and put these sets in my toolbox since they are more complete. Does NAPA still carry them, to see them in the store or are these NOS sets? How does the warrenty process work? Can I call in and they send me something or do I go to the store and they have replacements?

I feel like with Craftsman, they are now just trading on their name and overprice some of their stuff, especially now that their socket sets are made in China/Taiwan. I guess I still take some satisfaction in the ease of their warranty replacement policy even though most of the time I never need to get anything replaced. I am not that hard on my tools. I have also been checking out MasterForce tools (sockets and screwdrivers) from Menards. Both are USA made (screwdrivers by Pratt-Read and sockets by Danaher) and are lifetime warranty and cheaper than Craftsman by 20-30% sometimes. I just like to have some of my sets match, I am a little OCD that way.

I really doubt it. Cripe is selling is just selling overstock on these sets. Some things Cripe sells are blemished or seconds but I don't think these sets are. I doubt Napa would be happy to know you bought their tools from an overstock supplier.

On the warranty usually I have to go to the store and show them the tool. They give you a replacement if they have it or its there next day from the regional warehouse if they have it there. I have a good bit of stuff from Napa. I started collecting their stuff once Sears went downhill. I don't buy anything from them full price though.

NAPA's vary from size and what they carry from region to region but if they do not carry a tool or tool set they can order it in for you in a day or two.

Thier business is aimed at suppling body/paint shops, fabs shops and repair shops so they cater to mainly automotive hard parts vs. tools crowd, but most keep a lot of tools on hand. As an LOL, when I bought the two crow foot sets last month I called ahead, but when I showed up the counter guy spent a good 10 minuites in the back looking for them thus telling me they stock a lot of stuff but if it's tools the rate they move things is much slower than car parts. :)

Again, check the current flyer and see what it lists but they carry the upgraded Gearwrench offerings, Irwin, Chicago Pneumatic, etc.

For warranty, I would bring the tool or whole set (if you bought it that way) with receipt and let them figure it out. I;ve been told some stores can get the single tool whiles others just give you a whole new set. It's that inconsistancy that is the only downside of the NAPA's I deal with.

Is the site being ridiculously flaky for anyone else?

"Flakey" as in the members being weirdo tool fanatics or "flakey" as in software /website issues?

For me the site is fine. As for the members.......what can I say...

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You talking about Cripe or GJ?

Cripe's site has been junk since they changed their layout. I just get their stuff from ebay unless they don't have a certain item I want listed on ebay. They tend to give better shipping deals with their ebay setup from what I've noticed.

Napa tools with big Napa logos and big numbers are almost all imports. They are good quality, same as Gearwrench as mentioned above. I have numerous sets in that line, all from Cripe, very happy with them. The Napa (corporate-owned) where I'm from is slow to get tools, so if it breaks it's a week turnaround, but they just replaced my digital torque wrench after the head came apart so I can't really complain. Napa has decent pricing on shop equipment and their hand tool price is a little high but nobody pays retail there.

Are there any other sets I should be looking at that are comparable in price and number of pieces before deciding on this set? I have a NAPA store close to my house, so that shouldn't be an issue.

This looks like a socket set made by Gearwrench rebranded for NAPA.

Probably going to be expensive but we can only hope. Maybe thats the reason for the 50% sale right now. I'm interested to see what they come up with.

I have that set, another 3/8" ratchet, and a 10 piece full polish metric combo wrench set sitting in my cart for $67 shipped.

Anyone going to give encouraging words to pull the trigger or is this kindof a "meh" deal for that stuff?

I was noticing the "Design" part of the closeup pictures... does anyone else think that actually a pretty darn good idea? I've never seen that before.

I can't imagine that it is a "meh deal", that is alot of tools for $35 dollars and the quality looks on par, my only hold back is that it is not USA made, however Craftsman USA made is no longer available in their stores either, so the only option is to pay more online for NOS. I bet a Craftsman import set of just 1/4" deep well SAE would be $15 alone.

However I did just see this set on sale, not sure if it's USA made or better quality than the NAPA.
