What brand of compressor is that?

The compressor was a Craftsman 30 gallon upright style.

I replaced the compressor with one from Harbor Freight...

The compressor puts out 13.4 cfm at 90 psi (and it really does). It's single stage, 140 psi.

I also had to get a 5 hp motor. I got one made by WEG from the surplus center. It's 19.6 amps at 240 volts. The formula for finding the horsepower of a motor is...

Horsepower= voltage x current x efficiency / 746

5.2 horsepower = 19.6 x 240 x .825 / 746

I have an 80 gallon, 175 psi working pressure, industrial type tank to put everything on when I have time. I'll also put it outside.

What did that motor cost??

Looks good so far. All those all reference books on the shelf? That's one thing I need to add to mine is a place for manuals etc as for some bright reason I seem to always have my machining books in the house.

It is Snap-On. I was told it was the first production model. It was a demo that toured the country doing trade shows.

Yes, reference books and service manuals. I patched the drywall and painted the upper part of the wall so I could install the shelves.

Here's a minor update. I installed a 100 amp sub-panel in the garage. I also installed conduit for my welder outlet. You can see the color scheme I am painting on the wall behind the panel. I also took a picture of my little Jeep in the driveway.

StephenW,

Nice shop!

Mind if I pick your brain a little bit about your compressor setup? See, I'm a little frugal and I've often thought about upgrading my pump and motor instead of replacing the whole compressor. The individual parts seem reasonably priced...

So, how well does it work out? Is the small tank a real hindrance? How did you find the motor pulley? What do you use to tension the belt? What else were you able to re-use from your old C'Man compressor?

Sorry if that's a lot of questions!

Stephen,

Thanks for taking the time to write up your other thread. It answered most of my questions, but had the side effect of providing me with enough information to formulate a new set of questions. I'll post them in your original build thread so anyone reading it would be able to see your answers. Please check there!

Thanks,
Ed
