I recently ordered a set of Hein Werner 3-ton jack stands from Northern Tool and thought I would post up some pictures. You cannot get free shipping to the store since they are shipped from the factory so I ended up paying almost 11 bucks shipping to the store (which was still cheaper than $16 to my house). They are made in the USA. The welds are a little disappointing but other than that they seem well built.

Yep, i made a similar thread a little while ago. Sorely disappointed with the QC on the HW jack stands. One of the arms didnt even fit into the stand without a hammer. Contacted them and they said I was just putting it in wrong. Yea, ok.

Yah the welds are pitiful, the paint looks crummy because they are packed very poorly in the box

I bought them because they can actually support a unibody car by the correct pinch welds, the HF's don't even touch the welds

Looking back I should have spent the extra 15 bucks and got the US Jack ones

Holy ****, I have the same exact stands from about seven years ago and they look a hundred times better than these.

Man the fit and finish of those things are awful.

I pass a small equipment firm on the way to work. He frequently has a sign out front, "Welder Wanted". When I'm pissed off at *my* job I often think, "Hey, I can weld. I should apply for that job. ... Nah, they'd never take me. I'm just a noob."

Looking at that stand - I'd be a master welder at Hein-Werner!

I would not accept that quality, especially since you paid well over double what a better looking import set would cost.

Very disappointing. I always give the mfg. grief when this kind of stuff happens.

I've got a set of the 6 ton HW stands for Loretta (the dually). Mine aren't a perfect representation of car show-quality stack of dimes TIG work, but they look a hell of a lot better than that! I'd be kind of pissed if I were you. Any thoughts on returning them?

That being said, the set I have is built like a brick *********. I have no concern about their holding capacity. Horror Freight sells a set of 6 ton stands that would have done a fine job holding Loretta's fat *** up, but if I'm going to pay for a mediocre welding job, I might as well employ someone from this country to do it! :D

I was going to get the US Jack ones but the only place I could find them was $80 plus shipping

Yup, US Jack seems to mainly deal with government contracts so they don't seems to have much retail distribution in place. You just have to call them up at talk to the lady that takes orders.

I work at a shop who used HW, air jacks for road tractors and as with all there products, i dont understand the high price. Way overpriced for items poorly made.

Wow. Thanks for posting this up. I have the HF 6-tons and while they're not stellar, they do the job and are probably over-kill for a Bronco.

I'd seen the HW mentioned before and thought I might switch to those one day if they were better quality (and US-made, of course) but having seen this, I think I'll hang on to my HF considering the price difference. :eyecrazy:

Again, thanks for sharing, this has been very helpful.

So hein warner was bought by the magic lift people (shinn fu) and they kept the usa line of stands to appeal to the usa buyer, but clearly the qc has degraded since the buyout. I wish I could find another pair of ac hydraulic stands, they're really stout.

I've got the HW 3 ton jackstands from Northern Tool as well. I bought them about 1-2 years ago. They had the best price/shipping around. Anyway, I don't know when they were made, but the welds are pretty clean and everything works well.

I wanted the AC Hyrdaulics jacks but when I was looking I couldn't find any that were unequivocally still made in Denmark. I do like some of the German jack stands that Monte posted a while ago.

Those look very similar to the Snap On stands ... same lift specs just a different color. Might have to buy a set of these before my next suspension project.
