Hi there,
after introducing myself, (here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=148261) now I will show you the reason for being here.
My (far bigger then normal - for German measures - but still way to small garage).
I was googleling around the other day to find some information how to set up a Garage, save space and make the most of what is possible.

Currently I have placed the cabinets, shelfs, work bench etc. all along the sides of the garage, leaving not enough space to seriously work on my VW. I will re-organize the layout in order to gain more work space and finally get everything tidy-ed up!

The (inner) width is ~4,5m (=14,8 ft) and the (inner) length is ~8,5m(=28ft). Unfortunately the height was restricted by local laws (... as EVERYTHING is restricted in Germany:mad:)

Also the ground is currently raw concrete, the final screed is still missing... and I can't decide what I will use for flooring...

So, a lot of research and work ahead of me!

o.k., now I guess I have to start a thread on my Fastback! Yes, it is a 1966 model, I am in the final steps of the full resto.
Here is my Blog for the "Volksback" as my Fasty is called:http://www.yeti69.blogspot.de
Back to my garage, I guess I will build something similar to what Zeke showed, but more of that. Also some bikes have to be stowed, but I already purchsed a few bike lifts to pull them under the ceiling. Quite some body panels and doors for my VW have to be affixed somewhere, out of harms way, too.

Welcome on board Markus / Volkswrencher :).

maybe you can put a second ceiling into your garage - with maybe 30cm height to store all the body parts / windscreen.

Guess we have the same dealer when it comes to buying brakecleaner :D

Haven't been here for some time, anyway - Last week I started to clean up a little in order to gain more space in the garage. Sold one of my sons scooters and a bicycle - as he had grown out of them anyways, then I mounted all remaining body panels under the ceiling (a full set of fenders + a pair of 66' doors and another set of 67' doors + a NOS rear apron) and added a bike lift for my wife's bike, rearranged the cabinets and now I also can park my Super Moto bike again in the Garage!
I also sold a type 3 trailer hitch which was laying around and annoyed me ayways... So, I can invest in better brakes for the Volksback pretty soon!

A before and after pic of the ceiling is enclosed. I have to sell more of the Volkswagen spares as the "Volksback" is finished now and I want to use the garage again for wrenching action of all kind...

It's already better then before, but as it is not that big, I have to use the space as effective as possible...

Nice, welcome to the forum. The key is getting things up high and out of walking space ideally. I know with my space, and the rest of my house as a matter of fact i'm constantly making adjustments to improve the look and functionality of my space. G/L

EDIT: wow just realized how old this thread was before the last bump.

Come back and update us!!

The biggest problem I had working in a 1 car garage was that with stuff lining both walls front to back, you couldn't open both car doors at the same time... When you are over 6' tall, you sometimes have to be sticking out of both sides, or want both sides accessible.

I'd have at least one spot where there are are items which can be rolled to another spot that are directly opposite each other on the side walls... That way if you need to do work to both sides at once (rotating tires come to mind), you roll them out of the way beforehand, and have the full width of the space.
