SK Tool Warranty Experience

Last Fall Greg broke my 13mm SK swivel impact socket on a steering rack nut. The way the socket shattered it was pretty clear there was a defect in the steel used to make the socket.

Monday April 23 I called SK at 800.822.5575. After poking a few numbers I got to talk to Melanie who told me to "send it in" to:

SK Hand Tool LLC
1600 S. Prairie Drive
Sycamore IL 60178

April 24 I shipped the broken socket to SK parcel post with tracking via USPS.

April 27 my package arrived at SK.

May 11 a package showed up on my doorstep containing a new 13mm swivel impact. Not the speediest return every. But my set it complete once again!

That's an awfully large box for one socket... Maybe they can cut back on shipping cost by sizing this correctly? Oh well, glad you got a replacement.

matco does the same thing, giant box for one socket. you would think they would have heavy envelopes for small quantities of bits or sockets....

and in these huge boxes, they don't even send you any free schwagg, like a catalog, or stickers for your toolbox! WTF!!

did you have to send them the broken socket.

Yeah that is allot of wasted packaging. Smaller sizes would save a bit on shipping cost.

Took about 2 weeks for me to get a replacement combo wrench too but otherwise no problems.

Less likely to get lost when shipped in a larger package.

I called and left a message on their machine that I needed a ratchet rebuild kit and left my address and they sent me the same exact size box with my 1/2" ratchet rebuild kit in it two weeks later.

not really with the ups and fedex, they are very good at tracking packages. I get smaller packages all the time.

Just saying for a company that was about to go out of business if ideal did not buy them. It would be a better way to control cost. It seems a waste, as the the shipper besides weight also charge for size of the package.

I've got a rebuild kit coming, so, I guess I'm in for a big box as well. :thumbup:

did you have to pay for the kit? I've never had to rebuild one yet but was wondering because it doesn't sound like you did from what you said unless they have your card on file and I would imagine lifetime warranty means they fix or at least give you parts if it breaks but I've heard about how you can buy Matco 88 tooth kit and put into Armstrong ratchets so I'm assuming matco charges for them unless just for situations like I explained

I know there is a Snap On warranty thread, but this has to do with speedy warranty process. They are the only place, besides Sears where I have had to warranty stuff. I called SO on Monday of this week to warranty 2 sockets. They said they didn't need the old sockets back. New sockets arrived in a large envelope on Wednesday. Talk about fast. Couldn't have been happier.

the larger the company the bigger the discount, last company I was with our shipping discount was insane Id be willing to bet SK paid about 1.00 to ship that box

I know as my company ship with huge discounts as well. But $1.00 vs .50 cent does not seem like much. But if you audit it at the end of the year by the number of shipments. It actually comes out to be a decent chunk of change. And the price of the larger box and extra packaging material add to that cost at the end of the year.

As a larger company they do not pay anywhere near what us mere mortals pay for shipping. The company I work for doesn't ship out too much stuff and yet the cost is easily half to ship UPS or USPS compared to what I pay out of my own pocket.

I called for two 3/8" rebuild kits and one 1/4" kit and they came in a 10X10X10 box, printed with SK all over it.

No I didn't have to pay for it I just called the number listed on their site and followed the automated computer voice on the phone and left a message stating what type of ratchet I had and my address and a week or so later I got the big box with my rebuild kit in it.

they all take 4-6 weeks for returns, just snappy is gracious enough to pay recieving shipping....

I received a breaker bar head from SK within 5 days of calling. Came in a reasonably sized padded envelope. I also have just shipped out an extension for warranty to SK, will update when a package arrives.

I had a couple of item's sent in earlier in the year for warranty. Took about a week from when I sent them off to when I got them back. Snap-on was usually about two week's.
