Hello all, I am new to this forum but it seems awesome. The wife and I picked up a Honeywell RTH6350 to replace an Airtron Thermostat and I need help wiring it. The old thermostat (Airtron) had a G, Y1, W2, R, C and BO-W1. The replacement Honeywell has terminals labeled L, E, Aux, G, O/B, not used, Y, R, RC. I am attaching a picture of the wires labeled and the Honeywell back plate installed.

I just want to make sure this isn't something I can do as opposed to paying 100 dollars to have someone come out and run new wire (which I have never done). Thank you for your time and help!

You are going to have to use the "Conventional" terminals.

Red wire goes to R/RC (those terminals should have a factory jumper installed. This is power from the transformer)

Green wire goes to G (fan operation)

Yellow wire goes to Y (cooling contactor)

White wire goes to W (heating relay)

Blue wire goes to C (common on the transformer.)

It looks like the thermostat you purchased can be used for either a conventional gas furnace with a/c or a heat pump. Make certain that you look for a switch on the back of the thermostat (not the sub-base) that will allow you to select conventional.

All a thermostat is, is a glorified switch. It simply completes a circuit, depending on whether you are asking it to heat or cool. Those circuits must be connected to the proper sequence of operation. If they aren't, you can either blow the secondary fuse on the furnace circuit board or the transformer itself.

We have a heat pump outside and a furnace in our basement. No gas. Could it have initially had the wiring for a conventional and when the system was replaced the people that did it were too lazy to run new wire?

Ok, that makes a difference.

Red still lands on R/RC

Green still lands on G

Orange lands on O/B

Yellow still lands on Y

White lands on AUX

What terminal on the old thermostat did the blue wire land on?

Blue landed on the terminal labeled C. Thank you again.

Also I couldnt find a switch on the back of the thermostat to change it from heat pump to conventional...

Take a look at the installation instructions. Honeywell is usually pretty good at telling you what each terminal does. In particular, see if that "L" terminal is the common from the transformer.

The instructions should also tell you how to set it up for either conventional or heat pump systems

Garage?
Hello all,
First, thanks for taking the time to help.
I'm brand new to this forum and have this same problem but slightly different.
I've attached a photo of my current wiring and am trying to fit a new Honeywell RTH2410B 1019 programmable multi-stage thermostat. I get stuck when I get to the W and W2 part of the install.
I'd really appreciate any help on this one.
I believe my system includes a heat pump but not sure if there is backup heat or even multi stage (I made that assumption based on the current wiring).
Please let me know what other information you need.

Is your new thermostat WI-FI then the setup after installation can be done on your phone. But if you choose the contractor mode the you have to uninstall the program and reinstall it to get to the homeowner setup to schedule and adjust temps. I ran into this its designed so the contractor can start it and then the homeowner finish it but won't let you do both on the same phone. I didn't look up your model to see its WI-FI...
