Comparing GearWrench Prices to Carlyle Prices

I'm curious as to the purpose behind comparing MSRP of Carlyle vs sale prices of Gearwrench.
MSRP of the Gearwrench is in the $39-$42 area.
Doubtful you will be able to buy the "Carlyle" for less than retail where as Gearwrench can be bought from a ton of online retailers.

I was at my local napa and the wrench set I bought that was around 160 retail is marked at $124.99 on the shelf. I got a little discount as a prefered customer. Of course this is going to vary from store to store.
Amazon prices are generally going to be cheaper than brick and mortar business.

Do you have a source that says that Carlyle won't be available for less than retail at any point? (Sales, discounts, promotions, etc...)
Can SnapOn, Matco, or Mac be bought for less than retail? That stuff isn't available from a ton of online retailers.

I'm not paying retail for my Carlyle stuff, either.
Does this witch hunt happen every time a new tool line is launched on these forums? Just curious, i'm still somewhat new here.
I'd consider "retail" as the price paid at a brick and mortar store. It's generally always going to be more than an online price.
Marking down/sales/promotions is a typical marketing strategy. It promotes a sense of urgency in the buyer. It's been used successfully for decades now.
Look at what happened when JC Penny tried to do away with it - they lost almost half of their foot traffic in their stores when they lowered prices instead of overpricing and having "sales". Heck look at the frenzies created on here when guys feel they are getting a "smoking deal" on some product discounted off "retail".

It wasn't my intent to compare sale price to retail price. My intent was to compare current store price to current store price. The Carlyle set could've been on sale too for all knew. I had no idea the cost of the Carlyle set when I started this thread.

I agree. Amazon or Tooltopia will generally have lower prices on most everything. If you need it today you do pay a little more for it.
With Napa the volume of stuff you buy give's you a better price.
As an example,
say a oil filter cost 7.00 for someone walkng in the store, a smaller low volume shop may get it for 6.00, and a bigger volume shop may get it for 5.00. Where I work I can get a pretty good discount on some stuff, most of the time
This SS14114M set run's 39.99 on Napa's prolink site as well.

I think the bigger question is how many times will people immediately ASSume that just because something isn't made in the good old USofA it's rebranded?
If you have no idea what you're talking about, you really have not one bit of room to complain. If you don't like the threads, then don't read them. It's that simple. Some of us would appreciate it if you wouldn't, especially if some will come in and spew a bunch of misinformation with no sources to back it up.

Not only that, but again teh irony is if no one wants to talk about cheapo (so-called) Carlyle tools, then why so many posts and the interest.
Add to that when folks want a suggestion for a tool and anyone suggests Snap-On or any truck brand or even S-K or Armstrong, the first reply by teh OP is "WTF--do you think I'm made out of money?"

I've concluded the GJ tool forum seems to be an ever growing bunch of underfunded often-whiny dreamers that think a magical company owned by a tool wielding unicorn is going to make Snap-On tools for Harbor Freight prices. The tool snobs that think that only one brand of tools should exist reminds of of the Ford v. Chevy v. Mopar idiot boarding on asinine discussions I heard around the shop floor all day long.

I don't know if this matters, but today I've got time to head over to Napa and asked the store owner (who I know pretty well) about the Carlyle tools and he told me they didn't even receive anything from them to sell yet. I then asked him if he knew where the tools were made from, he said Taiwan.
He also is going to get me a Carlyle tool catalog hard copy when they receive it in 2 weeks.
So at the moment, some Napa auto parts don't carry the Carlyle tools yet.
If they have some tools that other company don't have, I don't mind purchasing from them if the tools gets the job done.
