Pole Garage resto, Dancin Daves garage! Pic HEAVY!!

NEW PICS ADDED.. 8/6/12

Hey All.. welp, Ive been a member for a little while and learned alot from you all!!

I will get pics tomorrow of what I'm dealing with, a 27 x 27 two car garage electric needs redone, roof leaks, side walls need redone, man door is rotted out at bottom... going to do a total restore on it and make it mine!!!

First two projects involve getting updated power, lighting ... so stay tuned for the progress... This weekend I plan on take out the OLD "screw in fuse" panel and adding a 100A box on opposit wall, rewiring the lights and 20a plugs to the new box. adding a 220 plug for future use (note, this garage currently has NO power to it from the service!) you will understand once I post pics!! (BIG *** FIRE HAZZARD!!)

anyways, the progress may be slow as I will do this as funds become available... already have to 100A box, will prolly go get some 14 - 2 for the inside lighting and 20a recepticals.

If you are running 20A recepticals, use 12-2 w/ground ONLY, 14 is too light and I don't believe meets code for 20A recepticals.

Thanks!! Yea, I see a lot of potential with this garage... just needs some tlc, man cave style!! I'm going to be adding 2x4 walls and insulation too... Going to be a slow process tho as I will be doing this as funds become available. I'm thinking this might be about a one year project.

Sweet!! I will def be watchin for it!

My shop is 27x27x9, concrete slab (NO cracks!), all 15A plugs including for the lights (gonna change all to 20A) and direct wire the lights to switches.

Shoot, I've even got future plans already to add on a 12x27 area (same side as new panel is installed) for a wood shop! :willy_nil

The "roof leak" have you seen it leak? That could be condensation also

Yes, after a rain there is standing water on both sides of the garage, the center is usually dry. The roof pic above, you cant see them but its full of little holes that you can see light through. Thought about just sealing it but the bottoms are pretty rusted too so might as well re-roof it...

I'm trying to decide between reg painted tin or Ondura which is 20.00 a sheet at lowes. The Ondura would cost around $900 to do tho...

Looks like you've got a great starting point! I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes. What sort of things do you work on in the garage?

M_P

Thanks!

well I usually just work on my own stuff and do a little woodworking here and there...

We bought this place last fall and the previous owner had his own dirt track car so he worked on race cars here. We have a TON of old track tires they threw in the woods out back. We are going to get someone to haul those off this fall.

He also left an old grider, I figured it didnt work... I decided to plug it just to see and the thing works like a charm!! ...Well, I say grinder but its actually just a regular electric motor (single shaft) with a grinding wheel attached... LOL
