I was just trolling Channellock's website and notice the below press release. I have several of the old pairs where the grips were made overseas and like them, I have yet to see the new grips. But nice to see production moving back to USA. I don't believe it effects their Chinese made screwdrivers though, nor Irega made adjustable grips. Still cool though.

Copy of Press release below.

Channellock, Inc., a worldwide leader in the manufacture of high-quality pliers, announces the re-launch of its CODE BLUE® line of pliers, as well as the return of manufacturing from overseas to a Meadville, Pa., partner. Thanks to this manufacturing shift, CHANNELLOCK’s entire CODE BLUE® line now features newly designed American-made grips.

The New CODE BLUE®

CHANNELLOCK’s popular CODE BLUE® line of pliers, designed for long-lasting durability and grip-comfort, has been improved with redesigned grips that feature composite thermoplastic elastomer cores and over-molds that deliver a more secure hold, greater durability and comfort. Like all CHANNELLOCK® pliers, the improved CODE BLUE® line meets the exacting demands of both professionals and discerning DIYers alike.

“CHANNELLOCK® is committed to delivering the best pliers in the industry, even when that means taking an already great product line and making it better,” said Ryan DeArment, vice president of sales and marketing at Channellock, Inc. “It’s an exciting moment for us because we’re offering professionals and DIYers a great selection of quality pliers that is now 100 percent manufactured in the United States.”

Re-Shoring Manufacturing

While the core of a CODE BLUE® plier has always been forged in CHANNELLOCK’s Meadville facilities, the plier’s grip has, until recently, been produced outside the United States. However, after deciding on a streamlined grip re-design, CHANNELLOCK® elected to move its grip production to Meadville-based contractor Evolution Molding Solutions. This change has meant CHANNELLOCK® can not only realize an improved grip design, but also dramatic cuts in shipping and production times and enhanced quality control processes now that grip production is locally sourced. All of these developments will facilitate the company’s plan to significantly expand the CODE BLUE® line in 2013.

“By making every part of the CODE BLUE® line in the United States, our customers win because they get a quality, American-made tool,” DeArment said. “At the same time, CHANNELLOCK® wins because it makes good business sense.”

Yes. I read this also. That is good news. Now who actually sells the code blue pliers that are made in the USA and not old stock.

Good to hear that! Their tools are excellent. I'm still using a set my grandfather had bought. A little goo gone on the handles, and they look brand new!

I'm just sad that there's no stores in my vicinity that carry the code blue Channellock tools!

The channellocks I've been buying, just the normal blue handles - have always been made in Pennsylvania. It must just be these blue & red stripped handle ones that were made in china, but now will be made in USA.

This is great to see.

I'm a huge fan of USA made tools, but I'm not necessarily an import hater. I love import tools, both euro and some asian as well.

I think that there is a re-shoring movement building; I'm seeing it come up more and more.

I've seen lots of people here say that those of us that promote buying USA made is a waste of time... but I completely disagree. A lot of companies are starting to take notice, and I'm seeing many companies either advertise USA COO more vocally, or even in some cases bring production back here.

I think that every little bit counts, and raising awareness for supporting USA manufacturers (in a positive and productive way) is a very worthwhile cause IMO.

I really think that average Joe is finally starting to connect the loss of USA manufacturing with the loss of his own job.

Wow,
A company actually flipped the reverse switch on the Chinese vacuum!
Who would've guessed i?

Actually this is a slowly growing trend, our economic downturn has forced some US companies to get a little more competitive and the rising oil cost has drove shipping costs up
Good for us he in the USA

I own a ton of Channellock pliers. I will be buying more once I find a place that carries more variety. I had to resort to buying orange handle Cornwell badged Channellock to fill in some blanks. I think Channellock is the best quality to value ratio in the tool market. The Cornwell is a couple bucks more but I am supporting a local small business like myself at the same time.

Very good Ju-Ju.

The reasons and politics involved with the "tool" compass pointing the wrong direction, are long and complicated.

When a co. like Channellock gets that needle pointing in the right direction......they might be suprised at the bennies it pays.Good for them!

If only craftsman and other brands could catch on now. Honestly in 5 years I can see most companies bringing production back. Craftsman did it in the 80s with Japan and it didn't last long.
They will also see that they are loosing money having a increase in warranty items.
I think I am going to make any future purchases of pliers from Channellock now though.
