Need some help rewiring my Dayton motor on my Clausing 16SC DP

Guys, I'm about done with my restoration project on my 1962 Clausing 16SC drill press. Couple of small parts that still need attaching but for the most part the biggie is getting the motor wired up to the cord. I took it apart to strip and then paint the motor. I've attached a couple of pictures of the current wiring and the diagram on the back of the plate. I thought I labeled them correctly when I took it apart but now when I hook it all up to what I thought was correct, it blows a fuse as soon as I click the start button on the front. I'm pretty sure the wiring is correct on the front panel...it's this here that is a bit confusing...if you look at the diagram....4-3-8 are the 3 wires in the main picture below with the gold clips on them. I'm assuming 2-1-5 are the three wires currently hiding inside the motor which are barely visible....

Why is the ground (green) and the neutral (white) from the cord connected together. Green should go to case ground.

I have no idea. I build software for a living...this is foreign to me. I thought I separated the wires correctly when I disassembled it but apparently not. Ok so green goes to case? BTW, that's not white....it's yellow.

I would try the yellow on the 3 hidden wires and put that green on the case.

Can you trace back the wires. Is the green grounded in the switch case somewhere? If you are using 110/120vac, one wire has to be hot (110/120), one is neutral, and one is ground. Ground should never be ran to the windings. Only hot and neutral go to the windings.
Most of the time black is hot, white is neutral and green is ground.

Do you have a DVOM (meter) to check this? More importantly can you use it ?

So perhaps try running it in this configuration? What's the worst that can happen? I pop a breaker? As long as the motor doesn't fry I don't mind clicking the Start button.

Kudos to you for stretching your skills doing this project. It looks like you have rewired it to A.C.s. recommendation. Maybe later you can figure out which are leads 5 and 8 and put on a reversing switch.

I took the risk and gave it a shot. Pushed the start button and by god it worked.

Almost done with this project, I'll post pictures when it's 100%....just need to figure out the knob on the door for the belt guard, need to add some touch up paint, and then I think I'll be done.
