Anyone have any tips on painting strips on the garage walls? I’m a little on the picky side and plan on getting an orbital laser level and using blue masking tape. I’m just curious how you all did it and how it turned out. There is no need for me to make the same mistakes someone else did.

I'm striping my garage also. I plan to use the rows of block as my line. Each section will be x-number of rowas of blocks wide. That way even if I'm off just a little the blocks will create the illusion of straightness. If that makes sense.

You can get some rolls of pin stripe tape to make the line as crisp as possible. That tape seems to have a cleaner edge then your generic blue tape.

do a search on this board. There was a good thread about a month or so ago on painting horizontal stripes on the walls. Good techniques and details to get crisp lines and no bleed thru from the tape.

If you use any of the crepe-based tapes (like the blue or regular masking tape) be sure to then run a thin bead of PAINTABLE caulk along the tape edge and wipe the excess. This seals the irregularities that will otherwise prevent a clean edge.

Very good tips guys. I'm going to go with the pin stripe paint since I have it on hand already.

Maybe not anyone else use frogtape? Looks like good stuff or is it just snake oil?

my opinion is that the blue painters tape is more likely to seep paint and not give as crisp a line. look for the light green painter tape (sold at HD and Loews) give a cleaner line and still pulss up without damaging the base color
