Hi, trying to find a 9/16" female/internal 4-point pipe plug socket in 3/8" drive or 1/2" drive. A few searches showed this type of socket on a number of sites, but not in the 9/16" size.

Looks like this (this is a Snap-on Socket, Socket, Pipe Plug, Internal, 11/32", Stock#: PP411A) But who has this in 9/16"? Thanks!

I need it for my borg warner t-20 skid steer transmission. A 9/16" open end wrench works fine but takes too long to get at the plugs. I could use a 12pt socket of some size I guess but I'd like a 4pt in the desired size. The t-20 skid steer level needs to be checked often because with age they tend to leak ATF out and then the drums and bands shred like crazy and a rebuilt alone is like $1300.

A 12 pt would not work, but an 8pt would. The 8pt is going to be the cheapest and easiest option for you. Get an 8pt socket in the drive flavor of your choosing.

I was going to suggest a ratcheting HVAC wrench, but a quick search does not reveal any of these in 9/16" square. I guess it is a really uncommon size.

ah ok, thanks, 8pt should work. The plugs aren't super tight. I saw 4pt in all kinds of sizes, but not in 9/16" :(

So maybe this one? Socket, Double Square, 9/16", 8-Point Stock#: SW418

You also might try a 5/8" 12 point if you have one already. ;)

You mean everyone doesn't have full sets of 8pt in the three popular drive sizes? Even you? .....................I do, but none of them are SO...........................Guess what? ...My Bonney 8pts work just great! :spit:

My buddy the GM Master Tech told me about the 12 point trick; he says the tool makers don't want you to know that. :D

12-point sockets/wrenches are very handy for just this use, but if the plug is rusted or sizes you xan just round the corners off. of course, this doesn't matter if you use a square or double-square afterwards.

Yes you're right ... the plug itself has to be in good shape and the 12 point needs to be a good fit for it to work; but I use a 12 point 7/16 on the 3/8 oil drain plug of the Briggs & Stratton just fine. :D

Most of the time it works great. just sometimes the corners round or you can't even get a socket on the plug. makes me think of the old Jaguar XJ6s, the diff fill plug is in such a position that you can only get at it from directly below with a box-end wrench. can't get a socket or crowfoot on. and they like the rust up, sieze and round off.

THEY DO INDEED MAKE 'EM!!!

I have a 1" drive Williams Female Pipe Plug Socket that I use on 2" pipe plugs.

MY PROBLEM, I need one that is something like 3/4" drive, that I can use on a 3/8" pipe plug. Anything less, will most likely break.

I have several boilers that I need to pull some 3/8" plugs out of......need to run several auto surface bleeders, and the surface blowdown is 3/8".

Anyone help with THIS PROBLEM???

Here is Snap-On's version;
