Scored on an unusual band saw

A buddy of mine works at a welding shop, they have upgraded saws and expanded, and this saw was taking up space since they no longer needed it. So I made an offer, and took it home. It's a Scotchman Glide In, the actual saw part self feeds into the table, it also looks like a person could use it as a standard vertical band saw. I guess it does not cut true, probably do to parts being worn. Has anyone used on of these before?

Nice! That's a pricey saw. All roll-in/glide-in/gravity-feed band saws are. Probably sold new for $5k or so.

Those are true industrial saws. Well worth a rebuild. Bearings are usually stock numbered items.

Nice score! A Scotchman too! You ****.Those Verti cuts are real nice. They are a true tool n die machine shop saw.They use them to cut blocks and stuff and yes they make a great band saw. I used to have one in my other shop. Paid $3500 used.
There should be a sliding weight on the side to adjust the cutting pressure.

Important!

Make sure you adjust the stop on it for when it's in the backed up position so it doesn't come crashing against your part our your hand when you load it with material.
Mine was like that when I first got it.Just a bump and it would jump out of the back position way too easily, until I adjusted it.

I have never seen anything like this before, I really didn't know what it was, other than a band saw. It was the main saw for a long time from a fabrication shop, they upgraded, and I guess they were having a hard time to get it to cut true, I suspect it's just normal wear, I plan on replacing most of the bearings, and associated parts. Header fabrication with my generic chinese import saw has been a ******... I think this one, it will much better. I did email Scotchman, and they emailed me back a manual for the saw, it has an adjustable counterweight, and hydraulic cylinder, looks to be an interesting machine judging by the parts diagrams. I'm stoked!

Worn parts is one possibility but more likely it is out of adjustment. A saw like that WILL have adjustments to get it cutting true, and the manual should spell it out.

Nice score, care to let us in on what you offered? (I smell a Usuck coming)

A couple of Franklins. Honestly I thought I was taking a risk as my friend only sent me some blurry pictures of it, I thought at that price it was worth a risk, as anything was better than that crappy say I have been using.
