My permit and excavator both arrived today!! Im building a 26x30 shop with a 15x30 loft. Digging starts tomorrow at 8am. I love old cars and need the space to work on them. I plan to post pics as I progress. Your suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated. Let the games begin WOOOHOOO!!!!

Good luck! Looks like your well on your way. I see your plan drawing shows two doors of equal height (9'). I would recomend making one of them taller. Looks like you have some wall height to play with. Make the lesser used door higher for those times when you need to pull in a quick job (like a favor for a friend or relative). For instance I put in a 12' door only because I have a camper on my truck part of the year and the top of the camper is 11'. I'd hate to have to take the camper off for a small job that I needed to do inside the shop. Just a sugestion.

Once the LARGE stumps were removed we got the foundation dug. Clay base soil in my area. Had to dig down 2ft to hit hard pan. Nice and solid. Should have my footings set up by next weekend. It was an 8 hour job, even with a large machine like this one.

I am assuming that you are laying a block wall on top of the footings? If so, do you have wide enough form boards. I know that in our area a foooter has to be 12" wide and 8" deep. Unless it is decieving, it looks like you only have 2 x 6's for forms. I may be wrong. Also make sure that you toss a couple of rows of rebar into the footers. They nake small ladders to set the rebar on and be sure to stake your forms from moving. Looking forward to the build pics.

The footings will be 18" wide and 6" deep (some areas will be 8" )with 15m rebar. Once that is complete I will have rented forms to give me a 6" wall foundation. I will post some more pics later today.

I had my footing/ form inspection last Monday so I was able to pour a few days after. I left the forms a day before I started to pull them apart. Didnt vibrate the walls, just hammered them. A few bubbles, otherwise turned out great. Getting pumped...its starting to look like something.:)

Had a buddy come in and spray tar along the permeter of the foundation. Its a bit overkill, I just dont want any moisture problems down the road. Tomorrow I will hopefully lay down the perimeter drain and by the weekend I should be ready to backfill. Slowly but surely...:)

I got my back-fill done tody. It took 6 loads of filtered sand to fill the inside and front perimeter. Looks like I will need 2 more to bring it to height. I went with the sand because it was cheaper and packs pretty good. 6 loads of soil from the excavation were also hauled out. I couldnt reuse it because of the organic material inside.

I got a pretty good jump on the framing this weekend. Took me 2 days by myself. I had a neighbor help lift the walls in place. Made the walls in pieces. Feeling pretty good for a guy with no framing experience. Should have the front wall done tomorrow and then trusses next weekend:)

How are you making your corners? I imagine they are right but can't tell from the pic. Should be three 2x's. Also on your top plate, don't forget to lay it so it "locks" in the corners. It will overlap opposite of what you have at the top now. One more question and I am not knocking so don't take it wrong, I think what you have done looks great, but in the circles area it looks like the top plate is stepped down a little. Is it an optical ollusion or did something get mismeasured because of the step in the foundation. If it is the latter, then you will want to get it shimmed level with the rest before the trusses go up. Just looking out for ya before you get to the end.:lol_hitti

For the corners I am using 3 2x6s. 2 on 1 wall and 1 on the other......if that makes any sense. The top plate is pretty level surprisingly. The finished form work is only 1/16 out of level across which is good. Trying to get out today but I dont think the weather will hold. We went from 90 deg on Sat to the mid 60s today.

Trusses arrived Friday after work. Took about 4 1/2 hours to place. A little slow at the beginning but once we figured out what we were doing it went quicker. We sheeted the first truss on the ground and then stood it. The inside room of the truss is 15 feet wide with an 8ft ceiling. Total height from the peak to the bottom joyce is 12ft. These trusses seem massive.

Looks really nice, one question... Are you going with sloped soffit, or have you just not trimmed out your soffit gable returns?

The neighbor is getting used to it. They like to complain...if it wasnt about the trees blocking their sun it was something else. So I took down the tree and put up a shop :) I snapped this pic from their backyard when they were away (they asked if I would water their lawn) I dont think its too bad.....:lol_hitti
