Hi guys,

Although my garage is about half built already I finally got around to starting my build thread! I'm building a 24x32 garage with 10' sidewalls and partial loft with 1 bay width cathedral cieling for lift. Construction started mid sept. Been planning this garage since 2008! It is deisgned to match up to existing house.

First post - here are some shots of the plans

First off, I'm sure you're wondering what a Pinzgauer is. Its a small troop carrier vehicle designed by the Swiss military. Its 4WD with locking diffs, and can hold 10 people. Here is a pic of mine pulling our harvester boat out of my lake last weeked.

Being that is over 7' tall I wanted large doors and high cielings on this garage. That is why I went with 9x9 doors and 10ft walls.

Here is another toy that may go in the garage - a 1949 Fairmont M19 railcar. This is me on the rails at Steamtown, Scranton PA a month ago. The railcar is powered by a Fairmont ROC 2 stroke pop motor.

SO anyway, on to the construction! Here is the land I started with for the garage. I spent a good part of the summer cutting back trees, which has provided me with enough firewood for this year, next year, and some of the next after. The contractor brought a nice sized excavator because the land here is VERY rocky. Matter of fact, this area was actually supposed to be a building lot for a house but it failed perc testing due to the rockyness, so it ended up being sold to a PO of my house.

Tell us about the boat.

What do you "harvest?"

Weeds and lillypads. My lake association bought the boat cheap from a bigger lake in the area who got a new one.

The machine made quick work of digging the footing. We had to go down 48". The footing is stepped because we built back into the hill a bit. We hit some ledge but luckily it didnt get into our way.

Cant find my other camera right now, so fast forwarding a bit. Here the block foundation is done, and framing has started. For some dumb reason, I forgot to ask for 2x6 framing, but oh well its too late now!

The framing for the front wall here is done. You can see the TJI 560's in the forground, they are being used to support the loft. I did not want any posts in the center of the garage. Also used laminated beams for the garage door headers.

Next they put up the beams for the loft and began putting in rafters. We had to stop work for this hurricane that just came through. No damage thankfully.

The roof pitch is 12/12, which matches the house. The soffit on the ends will start out at 6" and widen up to 24" just like my house does.

You may also notice I deleted the window on the side wall for the first level on the left. I decided my work bench will go there and felt a window would be annoying there.

The Terramite T5C in the second pic is mine, I sold my quads and bought it a few weeks back for a pretty good price. Going to use it to remove a rock wall, do a bunch of grading, build a new footing drain for my house and then I am going to sell it.

Here are some videos of some light offroading I did last year with it

Its a 1975 710M. It has about 38,000 KM on it and is mostly original. I put new Cooper Discoverer STT tires on it and changed out all the fluids. It runs really well and is an absolute beast offroad with all that ground clearance and the front/rear lockers.

Here are some pics of my house to give an idea of what the finished product should look like. The second pic is taken from the loft of the new garage.

Why did you build the garage so far away from the house? It looks to be like it may be closer to the neighbors house than yours.

Mostly to reduce the amount of excavation needed and make it easy to put in a driveway. The way the property is leveled and divided it made the most sense to place it in that spot. There is actually already an apron for a driveway there so I wouldnt have any issues with the town either.

Thanks! The overall height at the peak will be about 11'. I'll start to hit my head about 5' from the wall.

The Valp is cool. I'd love to get my hands on a C303 if I could find one for a reasonable price.

Nice looking garage. Congrats.

I'm pretty sure a majority of people here know what a Pinz is.

Thanks! I'm not used to meeting anyone outside of the Pinzgauer message board who actually know what it is. I ususally get 1001 questions about it anytime I go anywhere in it.

Nash,

Where did you pick up your Pinz?

Nice build too!

Scott

Thanks! I bought it on ebay from a guy in Virginia. I drove it home, about 400 miles, without a hiccup. Luckily I remembered to bring some hearing protection because the truck is very loud inside.

The floor is being done right now. Mixer just dropped off $2k worth of 4000 psi concrete with fiber mix, 6" thick. Also did rebar on 2' centers.

Had a huge tree taken out in front of the garage, which we noticed recently had a big split in the crotch. Removing it also makes my driveway run much straighter :D

Its been a while since I updated this. Alot has happened. All the siding has been completed. I have picked up and assembled a Garage Pro 8000 EXT lift from Greg Smith with two RJ35 jacks. At this point I am just waiting for my garage doors to arive from Amarr so I can install them. Also need some gravel for the driveway.
