Many Garage Journal members are familiar with Wolverine Coatings Corporation and their premium epoxies. You’re aware that Wolverine Coatings has been formulating and distributing their high performance products almost exclusively to commercial and wholesale channels and withholding them from the retail and Do-It-Yourself market. That’s about to change.

We’re glad to announce that the Wolverine Coatings products that are ideally suited for garage floors and other homeowner or small business applications will be available to the general public in a few months.

But summer’s almost here and many of you are anxious to whip your garages into shape today, not months from now. We have an old Brit roadster in our garage, so we understand the urgency!

There’s quite a bit of preparation that’s involved in launching a consumer oriented business, especially one dealing with DIY products, and we’re just getting started. But we realize that most Garage Journal members are a bit more competent than the average homeowner when it comes to home repairs and upgrades, and we think that getting Wolverine Coatings products to you now will benefit both of us. You’ll be enjoying the benefits of a Wolverine Coatings protected and enhanced floor sooner, and we’ll get the benefit of your expertise and experience to help us finalize our instruction manual and marketing materials.

During the start-up period, Eric and his staff at Wolverine Coatings Corporation will be monitoring things to make certain that Wolverine Coatings standards and methods are as tightly adhered to as Wolverine's BondTite 1101 adheres to concrete.

The Garage Journal has been kind enough to allow us to post this announcement; we appreciate it and hope to further the mission of the Garage Journal by providing a source of quality products that don't break the bank.

Please understand that at this time we can only handle a limited number of orders, first come, first served. So if you’ve been patiently waiting to finally improve that floor of yours, please PM me and we’ll get you the information you need so you can get started ASAP.

We're looking forward to working with you!

This is good news.
I am having the ground prep work done for a 24x30 addition to my existing 20x 30 shop, and had hoped to use Wolverine products to finish the floor. I will be in touch with you when things are ready to go!

Great news!

I'm about 6 months away from working on my floor.

Looking forward to helping you with you project!

You're making a good choice. I'm on the road this week, I've been at a few coating manufacturers, and that was cool, but nothing compared to another "field trip" I got to take.

I'm writing up a short "what I did on vacation" essay and hope to post it later today or tomorrow. I got to see Wolverine epoxies being used in an unbelievable environment.

It's safe to say most of us here are gearheads - this humongous place had a lot of cool manufacturing machines - some amazing engineering was in use. But yet they were stumped when it came to protecting their floors and providing a clean and safe surface to work on. Details to follow...

When you're ready to move forward, drop me a pm and we'll send out product info and colors etc.

That is great. I'm just a few months out and will be ready to prep the floor. this is good news.
Thanks!
Kurt

I like how you said "...ready to prep the floor."

A properly prepared surface is the key to success. I can't say that for all floor coverings, I know that some of them are pretty finicky when it comes to installation, even with a well prepped substrate. But the Wolverine products available to the public are almost foolproof. Prep the floor, follow the directions, and enjoy a seamless, easy to clean, durable floor that looks fantastic and will protect your concrete for years.

Let me know when you're set to go and we'll set you up.

Hi Fred,

What would your floor prep recommendation be for a very smooth, very clean 1 year old floor- acid etching or shotblasting?

Money no problem I'd opt for the shotblast. Done correctly it will give the ideal profile.

But it will probably mean getting someone to do it. The machines aren't readily available for rent, and if you do find one they're a bit pricey, $300 plus. But they can do the job pretty quickly. However, in the hands of a novice it's easy to over profile, and at some point the texture is too much for the coatings to easily smooth over. There's also the issue of 'corn rows', which is where the blast tracks overlap.

Chemical etching is a suitable alternative. Depending on the substrate it may take a few applications to hit the right profile.

The most common etcher is muriatic acid. On the plus side it's cheap and readily available, on the other hand it's pretty caustic and can do nasty things to any metal in the vicinity, even after it's been rinsed off the concrete.

A great alternative is Wolverine Coatings OrganiPrep. On the plus side it's water based, contains no toxic or hazardous air pollutants, is low odor, easy to clean with soap & water, and won't deplete our ozone layer. The downside? It is pricey.

Its great to know that Wolverine Coatings is available again. I'm going to start construction on May 19 and will be pouring concrete sometime in June. PM has been sent.
