I certainly bet the Hazet was it's inspiration. And my wife saw the picture, so I can bet I will have one in the kitchen in the next couple of weeks.

Maybe by marriage? It looks alright by itself, but I've not known anything Ikea makes to be very high quality. Granted, I haven't seen any in awhile, and my exposure to their product is limited to furniture.

While that cart probably has merit, the Hazet Assistent is leagues beyond that thing. I've got an old one at work (older than me, I think), and it still performs and looks damn near new -- not to mention the perfection of the design. I love 'em.

A very interesting looking cart. It's described as powder coated heavy duty steel, but at 22lbs it seems a tad light weight for shop use.

That said, I might get one just too see how it would work out.

They come in gray or teal. Only the teal has been available on and off. We've been waiting for the gray to come into stock for about 4-5 months now...I checked them out in the store. That damned thing is solid as hell.

We had family and some preschoolers visiting today, and it produced a situation where it made sense to take my restless one-year-old 'out for a drive.' Barely giving it any thought, I decided the drive would be to Ikea to get one of these carts (it was mentioned before once here at the Journal.

I'm impressed by two different things. One was being able to get into an Ikea and then back out of the place with one of these things under my arm in less than six minutes. (I went in through the exit, asked where they were on the self-serve shelves, and then definitely found the shortest line. This was with a one-year-old in a sling.)

The other thing that impressed me is how sturdy this thing seems. I say that after only having taken out one of the shelves (and not assembled the thing yet). I'm not sure what gauge of steel it is, but the single shelf weighs just a hair under four pounds. It's surprisingly substantial for a kitchen cart.

The top folds over in a lip, which adds more rigidity.

I was happy to see an alternative to the turquoise model. The gray isn't the same as the Rustoleum Anodized Bronze that I've got on hand. But it will chip to something close when I paint it.

Or if.

I'm still not 100% certain I've got a need (or the space) for this thing. But at Ikea prices, I'm willing to try a little 'Hazet-ness' for a while, at least.

Here's the official picture. (Which looks to be just black & white.)

As an owner (and fan) of the Hazet Assistent I feel offended by the fact you guys dare to make a resemblance with some ****** chinese pot metal frankenstein of a tray cart from Ikea.

Now on the other hand. Doesn't Snap-on got their inspiration for the Epiq from the Helmer?

Nahh - that one looks more like an ancient Waterloo. On the other hand, at 40 clams, I might score a couple of those Helmer things next time I get drug to Ikea. Might help out with all the assorted parts and hardware laying around here.

Don't tell the other guys but I actually own a red Helmer. Use it under the desk for papers and such. The're cheap and work well. The drawers have friction slides. I wouldn't put a whole lot of weight in them tough.
If I had the space I would buy a couple to store consumables in like sandpaper, cutting disks etc. Toss the wheels and build a nice frame around them or incorporate them in a bench.

Looked at these last time I was in Ikea (getting the cinnamon rolls) they had a teal one there, the wheels wont survive a garage floor, better wheels and it would be a good cheap cart, I want a grey one but they are never in stock, and my powdercoater wants 50 to recoat it orange

Right on! I'm thinking they would be great for all the oddball small parts I keep around (just in case).

My wife has has an Ikea Raskog cart for over a year to keep her office and mailing supplies in. It's rolled all over the home following her around and still rolls smooth on tile floors. I just got a blue one for the garage. I guess I'll keep my welding supplies in it or...

Just bought two myself in blue. As soon as I saw it, I realized it was a perfect size and design for some garage duty. Awesome price too. Immediately made me think of the Hazet Assistent as well.

Picked one up after seeing Jack's post about it. It has been great so far (had it for three years) for keeping my most used tools in it. Ratchets, sockets, and small wrenches on the top shelf. Screwdrivers, pliers, 1/2" chrome sockets, and misc on the second shelf. Rags, brake cleaner, battery impact, and impact sockets on the bottom shelf. I hang my larger wrenches off the side with bolts through, but have not found a good solution for the 24" breaker bar.

Had one almost as long as Jack. (actually three)

One lives on our screen porch with all of the supplies for gardening and grilling less a hose.

One lives in our kitchen and is covered in snacks

One lives in the garage with kids bubble solution, sidewalk chalk, water guns, water balloons etc.

They've been awesome. Take all sorts of abuse, haven't rusted, and the gardening one holds a 50# bag of potting soil on the bottom shelf.

funny to see a zombie thread come to the surface

You can find some nice organizational stuff at Harbor Freight for Homes you just need to compare how solidly it's built to what your needs are. That's a great value for those looking for a cart like that.
