These pics are from the actual Herbrand tool plant in Fremont Ohio, I stopped by today to talk to the owners who use it as a warehouse today. He told me to take a look around. He said the new old paint is flaking off so bad that now the real old original paint underneath is showing back through. I hope that made sense. I drove my truck around and took pics from both ends. This factory was build pre WW1 and closed in 1959 after being bought out by Kelsey Hayes. They started building tools in 1881. I took a few peeks in the building and yes their are things I want to buy. Who knows if they will entertain my request but I will have to stop back and ask when I have more time. I just thought I would share a little tool history.

Very cool!
My Dad bought a building to use as his BodyShop that used to make rope (c. 1910). It had some of coolest old machinery and bases I've seen. Later I managed a big shop that was a ferrier (sp?) in the 1800's-early 1900's (horseshoe factory!). Some of the original anvils and firing stoves were left as historical markers.

The factory I.D. is like a mugshot lol.

Thanks for showing that, it's a great piece of history. Can you tell us anything more about what his jobs were or if he ever told any stories about working there?

I've never seen an I.D. in front of a height scale like that, I wonder why? Or just coincidence after a brief physical test that was in a nurse's station or something...

Sounds dumb but maybe something to do with WW2 production and increased security everywhere ?? Just a thought
