I'm in the market to buy a good, sturdy tool box, sized from 40-56 inches. What I look at when determining how stout a box is, is by looking at the weight and gauge of steel used. I wanted to make a chart comparing top brand's steel gauge & weight so it's easier for me and others to determine which box provides the best value. Below is a chart representing 40-56" roll cabs. If anyone has any info on other brands, feel free to chime in and i'll adjust the chart accordingly. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FORUM TO BAD MOUTH OTHER BRANDS OF ROLL CABS, I'M SEEKING INFORMATION REGARDING STEEL GAUGE & WEIGHT ONLY, THANK YOU) Weight is lbs per cubic foot.

is that lbs per cubic inch or just the width?

If it is just the width your results will be thrown off from the different depths and heights.

Actually a better way might be to use square inches as it will take into account the amount of drawers. That way you don't have some paper thin box with 100 drawers beating a real solid box.

Be careful...some of the advertised specs are listed in "maximum" numbers. For example: the most cubic inches can be had if you configure a box with all deepest version of the drawers, rather than the "standard" mix of deep / shallow drawers, or the most weight capacity is gotten only if you configured the box with only shallow drawers....

Good point, I will adjust the numbers to represent lbs per cubic foot, as lbs per cubic inch will be too miniscule.
