I've always liked the look of these old wrenches so I finally picked one up for the novelty of it. It says Ritchards Bros & Associates Sheffield on the side. I thought it was interesting that it is made of 4 laminated layers. The middle two layers pass through the tunnel and form the threaded rod on the top piece. It's bout 6" long and has 1945 inscribed on one side.

Being made in Sheffield it has the look of some of the adjustable wrenches that sometimes were included in motorcycle tool kits. You might want to research it a bit more and see what you find. Some of that stuff brings a few bucks from the guy who owns the bike it belongs to.

Love to add that to the collection, what keeps the layers together?

I'm not sure how the layers were bonded but if you look at the top photo just below the jaw opening on the back lower jaw area you can see what looks like a dowel pin. I haven't examined it closer but there should have to be a few more of those if that's what it is. I'm thinking it has been blued like a gun finish which makes sense for the 1945 era.

Is the King **** laminated also?

I cropped the top photo for some details of 2 pins I can see in the original photo (don't have the wrench here) Ist one as stated earlier and second one at the bottom of the handle.

The Broad Arrow right over the date marks it as British government property...this was formerly employed in the military.
