Last week I received my new tool box, Strictly Tool Boxes has a great deal on the 56" Tool Vault with side locker: http://www.strictlytoolboxes.com/56-tool-vault-21-drawer-tool-cabinet-w-top-chest-side-cabinet.html

The Tool Vault 56" Combo came well packed and delivered right into my garage on a pallet jack with the lift gate delivery option. The powder coat finish is very nice and the build quality is excellent. Roller slides on the drawers work smoothly and have a detent to hold them closed. Double slides on larger drawers are a good feature. 4 swivel casters on main box and side locker allow easy maneuverability. Top of box is open in front for easy visibility. Satin finished aluminum drawer pulls and corner trim look great. The 20 gauge metal construction makes for a heavy box that should last for decades even in commercial use.

I've made a video showing some close ups of the features, take a couple minutes and check it out:

Nice review, thanks for doing it. The side locker seems like a no-brainer since it only adds $150 to the price, while it's $425 standalone.

Thanks! I've been Checking out the 56" boxes at stb. This one is a really good price and especially so with the side box option. I also like the square top style much better.

The square top is new, they just came in.
I've started to transfer my tools from the old box, it's taking some time because everything was dirty as these tools were used for 40 years at work.
I really like the top drawer on the lower cabinet, I was able to consolidate all my sockets / ratchets / extensions in one place. I cut a piece if 1/2" MDF for underneath the socket rails, that way I could screw them down and not drill holes in the drawer bottom. I also made a divider out of 1 1/2" alum. angle that made an area for the extensions.

regguy1, On the aluminum angle, would dbl sided foam tape work better? Maybe in some areas eh? I read it's 20guage, that makes your setup stronger then most brick stored. The Extreme is 18guage but more expensive too. Them prices for new makes it cheaper then used for some. Nice setup, enjoy.

I thought about the double sided tape, I drilled 4 holes in the 1 1/2" angle and screwed it to the MDF because it will be stronger and permanent. As mentioned I made dividers for the small drawers an I'm going to use #6 machine screws and nuts to secure them after I'm 100% sure of my layout.
The double tape won't work if you put heavy items in the wide 2" deep drawers there's some flexing and the tape might come loose. I've already used the machine screws and nuts to attatch the 1/4" drive socket rails and it worked fine.

regguy1 if a person could locate a complete used set up in a 56' combo package used from say CL would your new cost still be cheaper in the long run?

You tell me......
$1695.00 for the Cabinet and Top combo shipped. They have a deal now that adds the side locker for $1850.00 for the 3 pieces shipped. (limited time on the 3 piece deal)

the girls seemed not too thrilled about the tool box.

congrats.

personally, I like more deeper boxes. I started with 19" and 20" boxes now they have all been replaced by 28".

Oh, ok. The dbl sided foam tape I had used is industrial strength from Grainger. You would bend that angle trying to get it up. But anywho, ideas are abound in GJ which help me figure out my tools, drawers and shop. Thanks to you all. I still have not decided on paint colour for floor and walls, it's too cold now so there is still time for help. I like the 72" roller bottom for my handicap, may see how taxes go end of year and make the plunge. Are you happy with just roller bottoms? The 56" gives you a extra bench which I like, so maybe another bench is cheaper per sq. in?
