Here is a cool link that breaks down the whole history of Proto:
http://www.stanleyproto.com/xhtml/interactive_100anniversary/index.html
The site is a cool flash based animation with clickable tabs and be sure to go through the pictures on the left hand side. Especially, the last tab; if you click to the last photo there is a animated picture that shows a bunch of their old catalogs/tools through their history! Did you know that Plomb (according to Proto) created the combination wrench? Did you know the "500" series wrench set were honoring the Indy 500? All this interesting info and trivia, is in this timeline from Proto celebrating their 100th annivsary.
