a kra-65c is the little metal hand box that several of us have, i have seen them sell for 300+ dollars and rarely can be found for less than 100. usual price is 150-200 on ebay and they have not been made for approx. 10 years.

three questions, if you could buy a very similar but not identical new box what would you be willing to pay?

second, what would be a fair retail price to ask for one?

third, would you really buy one? example, if you said i would buy one for 50 dollars would you realy buy one or is it just talk.

i will post pics of mine shortly but please post pics of any you may have so people know what they are.

$75, I think it is a ridiculous that they go for $300 on ebay, not to say that if I had one that I got cheap i would definitely sell for profit.

I would personally pay $50-$75. I am cheap considering I got a KRA-21G for $20 at a yard sale. lol

1. Not over $50. It's way small.
2. IDK, i'd put it on feebay and let 'em go wild.
3. NO, it's useless to me, especially when one can go into a Home Depot, buy a heavy plastic one that wont rust, chip or dent, has a lifetime warranty and only for $20.

I would not pay more than $20 for basically a locking cash box with snap on logo.

who said it would say snap-on on the lid? would it still be worth 20 bucks if it did not?

if you think it is just locking cashbox you are wrong. i have a locking casbox and it is nothing like that. no cashbox i have ever seen has a sliding tray and compartments sized for sockets. the generaly are pretty flimsy with odd sized plastictray and compartment shaped like bills.:spit:

i have also seen plenty of cheap plastic tool boxes. most of them ****, waste piles of space and disintegate in the cold. not too many plastic boxes give you any pride in ownership and comparing this to a plastic box is not apples to apples.

I'm comparing apples to value. You buy a tool box to store tools. I've never had problems with the plastic boxes you speak of, dropped one from an 80 foot tower and no damage.

i would love to see you start a thread on a loaded home depot plastic box being dropped 80 feeet with absolutely no damage. it sounds like a stretch but i could be wrong. i have no interestin owning a plastic box and you have none in a box like this so i guess it's a draw.

i am trying to guage interest and value in this type of product so let's stick with this type of box for our discussion.

so you're wondering if you bent up some steel, tacked it together and had it powdercoated what someone would pay for it? i would say $40 would be pushing it. not alot of interest myself.

I always liked those boxes but never bought one from SO. I would pay $100 if of the same quality and mfg.in USA. Don't know where people find those super plastic boxes but most I have mistakenly bought turned out to be POS!

I have 3 KR65's. I think I would pay $125 for a new one of similar quality. I find these little toolboxes very handy.

To me the word import doesn't automatically mean junk. I have a lot of imported tools and tool storage equipment that is top quality. I would pay $125 for a good quality small toolbox like the KR65 and the COO isn't my highest priority. I would certainly like to get something made in the USA, but I don't think that is going to happen.

You did, in the thread title.

If you are planning on manufacturing a similar box, and are trying to gauge interest and/or determine a price, the thread title should have read "how much would you pay for a box similar to a kra-65c?"

I have one in pretty good condition, but definitely used before and continues to be used. It is missing the lock. I offered it for sale for $150, and was told that was too high. I think it would move easily at $100, but at that price I would rather keep it.

well i went back and read the first post and the title. i don't see any where in the title the mention of a brand. i am testing the water for an individual who has interest in developoing a box similar to the one mentioned. if there is interest people will respond and so far the response looks good. we seem to be getting the response i was hoping for. this type of box is not for everyone and it may be a niche product but then every product must fit in some sort of niche.

The reason they're scarce is they were priced so high they didn't sell in quantity when they were in production.

The reason they bring big bucks today is because they're scarce.

See a pattern here?

i absolutely see a pattern and understand it. that is why i am testing the waters on wether demand would be there for a similar box at a more reasonable cost. for those that want a box with a certain name on the lid or from a certain era then the price is justified. for those that want a durable, compact box like that for every day use, there is not another option currently available. there is a very good chance that a reproduction of this box could be made and at a fraction of the cost. that leaves the question, what price makes these justifiable to the tool user who wants or needs one?

I think if it was a decent copy, and was sturdy, I would pay about $40-$50. I would buy one for sure, I have always wanted one of these small boxes, it is amazing the stuff you can fit in one.

Sorry to bump an old *** thread but i'd pay $40-$50 for an import, maybe up to $100 for quality made in USA.
SK Farmer, have you looked in to kickstarter or some other similar site? That'd be the easiest way to get both demand and commitment.

I'm sure if it was nice enough you'd be able to sell them easy, seems like everyone wants a kra-65. Used beat up ones go for over $150 on ebay.
And people like me dgaf if it says ******** or not.

Wow, literally bought a KRA 65B in near mint condition for $20 about an hour ago. Had no idea what it was worth, very heavy and sturdy little box for sure. Not sure that I’d go $100 for one.

There going for good money on ebay. Right now there is one at $109 (just listed) and its missing the key and looks like it has been painted. Even has paint on the chrome handle.
