Finally!! At the end of last year, I ordered some additional deep drawers for my HF 13 Drawer Roll Cabinets. I bought three of the 13 Drawer/42" units when they were on sale for $349.99. Gave one to my son and kept two for myself. I had however, a need for a couple more deep drawers, so I ordered a couple from HF Customer Service.

As we all know, HF changed the color on these units from mat red to shinny red. So I thought that they simply would not fill my order - as the units had changed color.

About 10 days ago however - I received a letter from HF Customer Service informing me that my order had been filled - and awaited shipping. I just had to call and confirm the order, and of course pay for the items. Yesterday they arrived - very well packed - and much to my relief - in the mat red to match my roll cabinets!!

I just slide out two of the thinner drawers - and replaced them with one deep drawer. In total I purchased two of the wider deep drawers and two of the narrower deep drawers. Total price including shipping was around $70.00. A great deal keeps getting better and better...

Damn that's pretty cool. Got any pics? Kinda weird they could still get the crinkle finish. Makes me wonder if they have any old stock sitting around cause I'd really like a top box for mine, and I would really rather not have to paint..

You might still be able to order them from H.F. directly.
The long drawers {aprox. 23 1/2"} were only $18.30 each from HF
The short drawers {aprox. 13 1/2"} were only $14.20 each from HF

I'll most likely mount the spare draws as undershelf units on my workbench. :)

I am supprised. The new box is a little different than the old ones. I just picked up the 42 inch box and 2 end cabinets for $400 for all 3. They were like new. That is the first thing I have picked up on Craigslist. It is the old rough finish. I like that finish better than the new slick finish.

If any of you need the tiers for your bandsaw wheels don't spend $50 form a woodworking supply house get them form HF. The are a third of the price.

I hate HF but thier boxes are great for the money. I am very supprised they matched the finish. The company must be making the box for another company with that finish. I can't believe they would run one box.

I dont know why everyone is so surprised when HF comes through above and beyond, I have always found everyone from the store level to the Customer Service number level not just willing to be helpful but wanting to be. They are a huge store and wouldnt suffer a moment from the loss of any one persons business but they have never treated me that way.

I'm pissed.

I tried to do this a while back and was toldby HF they would not sell the drawers separate. I ended up buying a banged up box and selling the drawers I didn't need. Was a PIA.

Literally every time I walk into my HF there is an angry red neck yelling about how they are breaking the law and cheating him blah, blah, blah.

So I have come to two conclusions:
1.) There are a large amount of angry rednecks living in that area.
2.) Harbor Freights return/warranty/exchange policy leaves something to be desired.

The fact that it takes a miracle for them to look up a receipt is another joke on there part. There is no reason why they cannot tract your purchases especially if you are part of the inside track.

I want to do a similar thing to my HF 13 drawer, but i want to trade off my deep drawer and add 2 shallower drawers!!! I just keep my hammers and pile junk in on top of them in the 2 deep drawers, not really that functional for what i use in my garage, i prefer the shallow drawers to deeps.

any takers, ill trade them stright up, we just pay for our own shipping!!

Because on multiple occasions I've brought broken tools back and they would not exchange them. They were full of excuses even though every ad I get from them states lifetime warrenty on all hand tools.

Lets not turn this into a HF bashing warranty thread, OP just stated he remodeled his tool chest and that he had a great experience

Nice looking toolbox CARL, hope to be updating mine similar here shortly.

Sad that people have bad experiances, there is only one HF in my state and it's a long way away, I used to go to a couple in Salt Lake regularly, the State St. one was bad, the W.Jordan store was awesome, and the one where I live (110 miles away anyway) is always as helpful as they can be. Maybe if your in an area with more than one store you might try a different one, I have found also that bad areas tend to have worse stores.

I called H.F. Customer Service's 1-800 number

Referenced their ""US GENERAL 13 Drawer Roll Cabinet Assembly and Operating Instructions" - and the included Parts List.

Told them what "parts" I wanted to order ie Drawer "B" and Drawer "D"...

I was told at that point that if they did not have them in stock - it may take several months to get them ordered out of China.. I said that was fine..

On a different order - I ordered extra shelves for the tall side cabinet.. they arrived in a few days..

If you ask in the Store - I doubt anyone at that level would know what to tell you - other than they don't sell the drawers there..

The reason they can't do that is they use computers made in the early 90's lol

Would you mind posting HF's part numbers for the drawers? They should be on your receipt.

How about some pictures of the Datsuns

Sure Thing.. The HF Roll Cabinets pictured mostly hold spare parts for the Z's

The White 72 I purchased from its original owner about 20 years ago. The Emblems/Signs on the front fender are static cling vinyl - and only put there for Z events.

The Blue 72 I bought new at the end of 1971 and it's the only car I've never wanted to part with.

The Rally Car is the BRE 240Z that Peter Brock drove in the Baja 500 1973. It is the Janurary Picture on the 2013 Classic Motorsports Calendar! Took 10 years to find it - then 5 years to restore it.

Thank you for putting the research into the project and sharing.

The picture helped enormously, as would PNs.

The Drawers are shown in the "US General 13 Drawer Roll Cabinet Assembly and Operating Instructions. The second page of which is a "Parts List".

There they are simply identified as "Drawer B" which is the long one, "Drawer D" which is the short one. There are no other Part Numbers nor SKU's etc.

I just called HF Customer Service - referenced the above document and ordered Drawers "B" and "D".

You can download the document from the HF site as a .pdf file. As I recall if you look the roll cabinet up - the assembly manual is linked there.

Very nice cars. Any preference on year of the Z? I had a 73 and always wanted a 71 or 72.

I'm pretty sure that is correct. Slight styling change on the drawers between the first and second generation of the matte finish - and now the shinny red.

Those are beautiful. We now have a Z **** thread.

and

Very nice cars. Any preference on year of the Z? I had a 73 and always wanted a 71 or 72.

Thanks guys!! I bought my first Datsun 240Z in March of 1970 and I've driven them ever since.

Danglerb:
If someone wanted a "Classic Car" - to show and preserve for future generations. A Collector would have to spend more money to restore it or upgrade its condition to "Pure STOCK" - that money would most likely best be put into either a 1969 production year or 1970 240Z. They are the original design, they built the fewest of them and on a resale basis, they will most likely sell faster and for more money than later models. These are the cars that serious Collectors usually want - but only if they are in Concours Condition.

If someone wanted a Classic Sports Car to drive for pleasure, take to local "Track Days" or Auto-X etc - then the 1972 Model Year examples are considered "Best of Breed" for the Enthusiasts. They had several improvements incorporated - a) seats backs that tilt forward to allow better access to the tool compartments behind the seats, b) a better design 4 speed transmission, c) rear differential moved rearward for better alignment with the output shafts to the wheels, d) use of galvanized metal in critical areas, e) later 72's {built after Jan. 1972) had self retracting seat belts

The 1973 Model Years came with heavy Emission Controls - They are just as desirable as the 72's for the Enthusiasts - but to make them perform like they should - you have to change the Emissions Carb's out for the earlier S.U.'s {70-72 type}. The 73's also had the extended 5mph bumpers that many people don't like - so they too usually get changed out for the earlier bumpers. All this just means that if you buy a 73 - you usually pay less for it to begin with - as you will put more money into it {if it hasn't already been done by some previous owner}.

In all cases RUST was a major killer of the 240Z's {same as the 65-75 911's and most cars of that era}. So the most important aspect is the actual condition of the body - anything mechanical is usually easy and relatively inexpensive to fix - Like most 40 year old cars - CONDITION of every aspect of the car determines it value. A near perfect, 95+ point, Concours Example can sell for over $50K now - where a daily driver, with 150K+ miles and well worn but running condition might be $3,500.00 on the West Coast.. You can expect to pay $15K to $18K for an honest, presentable and reliable Enthusiast Car - that most people would think "looks like new". {but of course it won't be "new"}.

I've owned just about every car I've ever really wanted - but they all came and went after about 5 or 6 years. The Datsun 240Z is the only car I've never tired of. Fun to drive, lasting Classic Styling, easy to maintain and reliable, lots of room for American size people, lots of utility space as well. All in a still affordable package.. Good one's are however getting harder and harder to find...

Nice Z cars. I don't want to clutter up your thread but my friend built this 240 which is considered to be one of, if not the nicest 240 in the world. It is now in Dubai. Not sure if you've seen it or not.

Hi dlc:
No Clutter here - sometimes it is fun to mention the reason we all have our GARAGE and the tools that we do.

Yes - saw that Z discussed in several on-line forums both as it was being built and then sold. Great example of an "Extreme" Street Mod / HybridZ build. A lot of 240Z's have become the 32 Three Window "Duce Coupes" of the 21st Century. Beautiful work throughout - the buyer in Dubai got a great deal.
