Hmmmm....that's interesting for sure.

Would sure be handy in a larger shop....Mine, just ain't so hard to walk across, nor is it all that far! (Sad....I know...).

Would be nice to have a larger shop...then for sure I'd have a couple more smaller boxes like the above one.
Looks like a good price too, compared to the Home-depot one.

Looks the same to me, to bad it's Chinese. Thinking about it's weight of 225 lbs., that's lighter then most of it's size eh?
No specs on gauge of steel or pot metal.

no, 225 lbs for just a bottom roll cart of that size? that's pretty heavy... the HFT top+bottom 26" wide combo is 142 lbs and that thing is pretty solid.

yeah, it's made in China, but it seemed pretty solid in my opinion. the only thing I didn't like was that the bottom deeper drawers are not double slides on each side so it can hold more weight. Also, the thing doesn't have handles, but I guess it's not a big deal except if you're rolling it down hill you'd have a better hold on it with a proper handle.

by the way, the drawers on that thing have a "grip-latch" like mechanism... nice on a mobile cart so they don't accidentally slide open when you're moving about..

Went to Costco and got one of these Kubota tool chests today. Really decent quality though Chinese made, I assume Kubota is just licensing their name. But I like the chest. I have been looking at an additional chest and was singularly unimpressed with what's available locally. Well, cannot afford SnapOn or Matco.... This is a very nice chest for the price. Friend says he bought one somewhere else for $100 more.

I haven't run across AllTrade anywhere, but the back side, instead of saying Kubota, is marked "Trademark Industries."

Last summer, I was researching gas grills and discovered, eventually, that some of the "big name" companies are "renting" their good names to Chinese manufacturers. Supposedly, the Chinese places are obligated to build stuff to a quality that will not damage the rep' of these American brands. From what I have read, this obligation is roundly ignored. The two grills I was interested in were labeled KitchenAid and JennAir, both made by factories in China. Or as far as I can tell they are. [I ultimately opted for a Weber.]

I am just guessing that Kubota has done the same thing [maybe not] by renting out their brand name like this. But I do like the tool chest ok. It is not anywhere near a $2000 SnapOn, but then I paid $379. I went around to Sears and ToolKing and Northern Tool and a few other places last week, and I thought the best they had to offer were not nearly as nice and well-built as this Kubota. If Sears and the others have better-quality boxes, they did not have them on the floor.

I just saw the orange Kubota toolbox at Costco last night and am quite impressed with the latching mechanism. It is a grip latch style but is quite unique because the tripping mechanism is actually behind the drawer pull and can be activated anywhere along its length. The drawer pull does not hinge up and forward like the craftsman grip latch or the new masterforce style boxes.
While I am not crazy about the box layout or the color, I think the drawer latch mechanism is ideal and hope to see it on other toolboxes in the future. If you have a Costco nearby, it is definitely worth the trip just to check out the handle latching system.

Cheers,

Brad

Yes, the latching mechanism is good. I actually bought one of these and the fit and finish are very good. The drawers operate very smoothly and tightly.

I have been hearing about the really cheap HF 41" and 56" rolling cabinets, and I would like some more space, so I went down to an HF store this afternoon to look at their boxes. On the way, I stopped at a Costco and asked whether I could return their "Kubota" tool chest if I decided to get another, and they said, sure.

I was extremely unimpressed, however, with the HF boxes and chests. The drawers and cabinet doors were flimsy and rattly and junky. So, I am back to figuring I'll stick with the Costco. I do have my old Waterloo stack and though the slides are just slides and not bearings, the drawers are much tighter and better than these HF ones.

Oh, well, back to planning. The Costco one is quality for the price. They also have a stainless, 72" rolling cabinet with four swivel [locking] casters and it is also pretty nice, though I didn't get to check the drawers and hardware and it is too long for my space. Something like $599, I think it was. Hardwood work top, liners included, etc.

Just to let anyone interested know that these Kubotas are still available at Costco. I saw them today marked down $60, making them $299.

I took mine back because I needed more storage. Instead I took the money and bought a larger box at Strictlytoolboxes. However, I would have kept the "Kubota" one if I had had room for another box. I did like it.

The price I paid back in Dec. was $359 and I don't know how long the $299 deal is for, but typically those reductions last several weeks.

Price is now $269 at Costco. Name on chest has been changed to Toolmaster but looks identical to the Kubota chest.
