Picked this from a CL Tool Box ad, saw it in the drawer pics and had to have it. Who made it, I saw one here on this site but can't remember the thread or maker.

If I remember correctly, I saw one in the "Hazard Fraught" coupon thread posted here a few days ago. It was right next to the 16 ton hydraulic nail unbender.

What you have is a highly specialized ratchet. It is made by Stol if I remember correctly, which is the Hazard Fraught Chinese made imitation brand of Stihl. As a side note for those that may not know, the manual chainsaw is another product in that same line of tools.

The ratchet is designed for the woodsman who wants to service his chainsaw, but who may not have regular mechanic tools. The handle is hollow so you can temporarily wedge the ratchet to the end of a spare hatchet or ax handle you have laying around if you prefer a longer handle, need extra leverage to break a stubborn bolt loose, or just prefer the feel of a wood handled ratchet over cold steel when it is below freezing outside.

This is a very rare ratchet indeed, because they are usually carelessly broken as a result of someone grabbing the nearest hatchet handle to quickly split a piece of firewood (forgetting that it is actually a ratchet on the end of the handle) and it is broken after the oblivious woodsman becomes frustrated from swinging it against the log over and over while thinking "man this hatchet is dull I need to resharpen it". By the time the mistake is realized it is too late and the ratchet is in pieces falling to the ground, usually landing right next to the (also broken within 10 minutes of use) manual chainsaw.

The Amazon one appears to have a thumbwheel, this one doesn`t appear to. What does it say on the fwd/rev wheel, looks like some writing, can`t make out in pic. It`s cool, and I want one.

It may have been filled with rubber/plastic, or it may have been intended for a belt carry? Mountain bike or Off road M/C use?

it doesn't appear to ever have had any plastic/rubber on the handle, appears to be made this way. I know for a fact someone here has one in their tool box, I saw it. maybe in the ratchet thread, or tool box thread, possibly an organization thread...somewhere here, someone has one and posted a pic of it in a drawer of tools.

I could be wrong, but I think I recall seeing one in the "garage sale season" thread. Cool ratchet by the way...

HELP!!

Someone here has this ratchet, I know 64merc and me are not the only ones to have seen it. It is in someones ratchet drawer and they mention it being handy or something to that effect, I don't think they mention brand.

You may be right Outlaw!

Well since this site is loaded with people who really know their tools and nobody can recognize this and there are no maker's marks on it I wonder if it is a high school shop project. Could explain the other one you saw. Some high school shop teacher drew this up and made it to work with a specific rebuild kit or something for the head and some of his students made one. Just a guess.

Seems like a plausible idea, but I know my high school shop did not have the equipment to properly harden and chrome the metal.

Was this the unique design for Edward Scissor Hands???? Thus, a one-of-a-kind single build??

LOL . . . not a clue about that strange ratchet!

Is it an aluminum body?

If they would have turned the handle 90' it would have been a real knuckle saver.

Nobody has identified the ratchet yet? How about some more information. What is the drive size?:headscrat What is the weight? Does anybody recognize the forward/reverse knob on top, either from a USA or imported ratchet. I doubt it's a "one-of", that space in the handle looks like something "designed" into a production ratchet for some reason. Maybe there was an insert that held something, like some sockets meant to be used with the ratchet, or other small tools, as a portable tool kit.:wtf: nine4gmc do you remember were on this forum you might have seen the ratchet? Was it in one of the General Tool Discussion threads?:shocking: Show us your toolboxes, Ratchets, favorite tools, etc. another words: Supply any other info you may have forgotten to or were unsure of.
