Gambles ratchet.

This was my Dads, not sure were he bought it from. It has the same gear as SK.

Oh great, another brand to add to the list. :thumbup:

According to Alloy Artifacts, SK branded tools under the "Artisan" name for Gamble Auto Supply. I'm gonna guess that Gamble eventually dropped the "Artisan" name and went with "Gambles" to closer identify with the store.

Anyhow, looks to be identical to the Klein ratchet I have - is the raised panel with the name on only one side of the handle - the opposite side is smooth? I figured the Klein was actually an SK produced ratchet, like Krauter.

At first an educated guess by looking at the ratchet mechanism and chroming, then...

From Alloy Artifacts S-K Tools page:

Later History

Although the primary focus for this article extends only through the 1960s, we'll mention some later events in the interest of completeness. In the late 1960s Symington-Wayne was purchased by Dresser Industries, a large conglomerate, and S-K Tools became a division of Dresser. As a side note, Dresser Industries had previously purchased the Kraeuter Company, a well known maker of pliers and other tools. At some point Dresser decided to introduce a Kraeuter brand of sockets and drive tools, and these were presumably made by the S-K Tools division, based on the similarities in design and construction.

While "presumably" isn't quite as good as "absolutely cast in stone", the evidence is good enough for me. And I always forget to add that "e" in Kraeuter...

There was a time awhile back on flea bay that Kraeuter ratchet/socket sets were going ballistic bid-wise - never could figure out why.

sorry to bring up a thread from the past...but I have proof positive that Gambles was made by S-K. I have several sets of Gambles sockets in their original S-K boxes

Where is this so called proof, you talk a big game but have failed to provide one lick of evidence that S-K made tools for Gambles.

we had a house once that was bought from Gambles hardware store, not that it has anything to do with gamble tools
