Hey all. This past weekend, my father gave me his old snap on top box. It went all over the world to formula 1 races and what not with him. He thinks that he purchased it around 1981. I'm just looking for any information you guys can share with me about the box. I don't know where to find the serial number and manf. Date here's some pictures ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360170309.384280.jpg

Welcome. The model number should be stamped in the back right in the middle. It should also give you a 2 digit number signifying the year.

BTW your Craftsman is probably groaning from the weight. You may need to find your self a new roller!

I wouldn't doubt it. This box has to be pushing 100 pounds if not more empty

That drawer layout is different ! Almost want to say it is a Road Chest KRA62 but those boxes had fewer of the smaller drawers--might have been a custom box.

If anyone is interested.

My dad bought this box around 1980-81. Said it came right off the truck.

It went all over the world with him when he was a mechanic on the formula circuit.
He moved to the states in 1983.
This box was with him when his team (team dominos) won the Indy 500 in 1990, I was on winners circle in my moms stomach as she stood behind the smoking hot tire of arie luyendyks car up on winners circle. I was born a few weeks later fully cooked.

Great box--great story behind the box ! Although it's hard to prove I've always thought that the US never got all the Canadian made selection of boxes-did Snap-on produce a seperate catalog for Canada? Your box # has no letter suffix , so that would usually mean it was older than the one in the link.

I bet your dad has some stories. What F1 teams did he work with?

Don't quote me on this because I'm not positive.. But lotus and arrows I do believe. He told me one night he had to stay up all night building one of the black John players special cars.

He went on to work for forsythe championship racing, with Greg moore(rip) Alex tagliana, and a championship with Paul Tracy.

Cleaned her out some today. And then made custom drawer liners.

I used indoor outdoor carpet. I got a piece from lowes on sale for 11 bucks usually 24 If anyone is interested. It was a runner 3ftx5ft did most of the box had to patch in two sections from scraps.
