Finally getting around to creating a post for my garage. We moved into a new-construction home in October 2012. It's got an attached, 3-car garage. There's a double door and a single door. The cars park in the double-bay. Until recently, the third bay was completely relegated to miscellaneous storage. Finally sold the entertainment center on CL to clear some space. Got a few more things to get rid of before I can really get down to it, but I at least have a start.

Here are some pics of when it was still full of stuff. (I need to make it a point to take pictures with the camera instead of my phone.) :lol_hitti

For Christmas, I made a haul! Family got me a US General setup from HF, a Jawhorse and a Workmate.

Got bricks moved to the back porch for putting up around the grill, and in doing so, I made some room to push my compressor back towards the wall.

Not sure that's where it will stay, but it's ok for now. I'm pretty limited in that I only have 2 electrical sockets on the walls in the garage. One here, and one on the side wall of the third bay that supplies power to the internet stuff (Verizon FiOS) and sprinkler system.

So here's my starting point. Not too proud of its current condition, but you gotta start somewhere, right? I'd like to use it for general handyman stuff, DIY auto repairs and some woodworking. No welding, at this point. Another goal is to keep the third bay as open as possible when not in use, just in case I want to pull a car into it during a storm or something.

Kind of hard to make progress these days, as we have a 6-yr old and a 4-month old that take up most of my non-working time.

Wishlist:
  • Paint walls
  • Upgrade floor (so many options!)
  • Cord reels
  • Long power strips
  • Ceiling/attic insulation and decking
  • Garage door insulation
  • Small gas heater
  • Mini split A/C (likely dreaming here)
  • MaxJax-type lift (dreaming here)
  • Storage lift platform for storing a contractor table saw, router table and miter saw.
  • Garage door status indication
  • Music!
  • Fold-up workbench

I love following projects such as this. That's an extensive, yet doable wishlist you have compiled there. One feature of your space that caught my attention, is the recessed niche that is home to your freezer and water tanks. That's a thoughtful feature. Our builders up here would never throw something like that in the mix (for free!). Subscribed. Good luck.

Hardest part will be figuring out what **** to keep and what **** to toss. After that you on the easy slide. I would definently want more power outlets.

It feels like it's been forever since an update. I've made some progress, but still not nearly where I want to be. I got a couple of FastTrack rails hung and that helped get some things off the floor. Sold the entertainment center on Craigslist. Sold a couple of bar stools that were sitting in the garage, as well. Both cars are able to park in the garage, as intended. Also got some things put into the attic.

I hung two bikes from the ceiling over the bigger of the two garage doors. Blurry iPhone pic.

One of the FastTrack rails is visible there. It's between the two doors and holds long, skinny items like shovels & rakes.

I think my next garage chore is dealing with the wheelbarrow. I bought a Racor hanger. Now to decide where to put it. I've thought about putting it on a fence post in the back yard, but that'd probably make it rust faster. It just takes a lot of wall space to put it inside the garage.

Check to see if you can have a garden/yard shed. That'd be a great place for all the 'dirty' stuff. I built a tiny one and it holds lots of stuff.

I'm always surprised when i see these references to HOA's in the states. They seem to be a really common thing. In Canada as far as i know these would only be applicable for a Condo.

Great project!! Thought of hiring a unit and concrete polish and seal the floor?

Instead of other flooring options? No, I hadn't thought of that. I've been reading about different flooring options here on GJ. Not sure what to do at this point. Was originally thinking epoxy, but also considering Racedeck-type tiles.

Polishing and sealing the floor as-is is probably a much cheaper option. I'll have to look into that, as well.

Well, things went south in that house. The foundation heaved 4" on one corner and we had sheetrock cracks all over the interior of the house. This was in a house that was only 1.5 years old. Got the builder to buy it back from us. Built a new house, so I'm starting over with the garage. Ain't life grand?

Ah, life is fun like that sometimes isn't it. Still, what I heard was "built a new house so I'm starting over with the garage", so where's the pics? :) Good luck with it. What size have you got to work with this time around?
