No trees were harmed during the making of this movie.......except for the one out front that the truck carrying the trusses clipped backing in the driveway........anywho..

Unfortunately, I don't have pics of certain steps of the build either due to being at work during the process (like when the trusses were set ) or just plain old neglected to take them. Soooooo, last pic before framing begins

So far, between excavation, concrete, and framing, I've contracted this stuff out. I was told framing was easy, but sometimes it's worth the extra expense to save the aggravation and know it's done correctly.
Here begins the framing..

Me in my H.A.M.B. shirt sweeping the pretty new concrete

My dog Bonnie (short for Bonneville...as in Salt Flats) inspecting the progress

This is right after the storm that sent my neighbors tree crashing into my backyard. Thankfully, it missed turning the shop framing into a pile of toothpicks. Oh yeah, the trusses are here too.

I'll continue with more a bit later.

cool...keep the pics coming. Was woken up this morning with a loud crash. Neighbors tree blew over during a storm, caught the very end corner of my roof (ongoing Pole Barn build).

Thanks guys. I failed to mention the inspiration for the garage design in the first place. I always wanted to have property with an old barn, then just finish the inside to be a very nice workspace. Well our new (to us) place didn't have that old barn, but it had room for me to build my dream shop. So I'm going for a barn look that should patina and age nicely on the exterior, while going more modern/industrial on the interior.
Here my friends Jack, Jeremy, and my father-in-law Carl got the OSB up

Next up was a corrugated galvanized roof and some Tyvek...

And the (almost) finished roof...

Here begins the long and tedious and still not done yet process of coating each board inside and out top to bottom with clear Olympic Maximum stain. I chose clear to allow the wood to weather and gray over time.

Now a little payoff. I've got the windows and service door trimmed out in cedar and I'm starting some of the pine tongue and groove siding that I've sealed. I'm drilling pilot holes to keep the wood from spliting and to keep all the stainless screws in line visually.

Before I was able to get the sevice door installed this spring, I would just clamp a 4'x4' piece of OSB to the bottom of the opening to keep the dog out. Well, in the meantime a robin got in and made her nest complete with eggs. We actually co-existed pretty well when I was working in there, and I think the family has now all moved out.

Here's the front all finished up and a shot from the street during my Memorial Day party.

This is where things are right now, and with our first baby on the way in July, all I can hope for is to just keep steadily picking away at it till it's done. I'll leave you with one of the wagon and Bonnie until there is more progress. Thanks for looking so far!

Looks fantastic!!! I really like the looks of the vertical boards on the garage. It adds much character to it. The rest of the property doesn't look too bad either. Kudos:thumbup:

I'm glad you guys are diggin' it. I just have this vision in my head of the shop all finished out with my '36 Ford coupe mocked up in raw steel peekin' out the door. You know what I'm talkin' about.

Homebody,
I'm going to attempt to keep the toy explosion out of "daddy's" shop and confined to the house and if need be, the attached 2 1/2 car garage.

e-tek,
The wagon was aquired in a trade and is for sale, although not actively right now cause it needs a little TLC first. I'll have to grab some pics of the 36 and get them posted up here. I've also got a 2001 self made "So-Cal Edition" F-150 that I'm putting up for sale soon. As far as tools, I've got most of the basic stuff. Drill press, HTP welding machine, plama cutter, chop saw, compressor, body dollies, hammers, homemade ******* (from a leaf spring), Shrinking disc. I'm really looking forward to getting back my 4'x8' fabrication table with the 1" thick steel table top. I got it from work a few years back and it has been at a friends shop this whole time cause I never had the space for it. Eventually I'll get my lift, an English wheel, a box brake......

No new progress on the shop recently, but a few shots of my vehicles.
Here's a few of the '36 mocked up at the old house. This is the #1 reason for the new shop.

Time for a long overdue update. After running the electric and gas, I packed it in for winter. Now I'm back at it, and starting to feel like the shop is just about in the home stretch.

Here's the my buddy Eric and I tearing up the yard with the trencher.

I ran the electric through 1 1/4" PVC, a 3/4" PVC for future line like phone or cable, and 1 1/2" PE for gas. I covered everything about a foot from the top then ran caution tape in the trench and finished filling it in. (I got the idea from someone here on the board...thanks!)

When we went to get steel conduit and boxes at the local electrical supply, the guy thought we were nuts. Romex is the standard out here in LaPorte.

After the long, very snowy winter, here comes the delivery truck.

Drywall and insulation.....lots of it!
DSC03007.jpg

In the meantime, the father-in-law helped out again and we got the 4'x8' bathroom/compressor room framed out.

I don't have attic trusses, but after reading a bit on the board here, I didn't think that putting in some attic space for light storage would hurt.
DSC03050-1.jpg

Since the insulation will be sandwiched between the attic floor and drywall, I piggybacked the 2x4's with 2x6's in this area so as to not hurt the R value.
DSC03052-1.jpg

Attic ladders over 10' were ridiculous money and since I won't need access up there all that often, my money was better spent on an extention ladder that can also be used around the house.

Drywall! Now it's startin' to look like something! My other buddy Eric with a couple helpers hanging the drywall.
DSC03058-1.jpg

The barter system is alive and well here. Eric hangs and muds the drywall, and I put a custom paint job on his Harley.
DSC03060-1.jpg

Cool.
DSC03063-1.jpg

The outside of the bathroom/compressor room was left without drywall because I intend to finish it like the outside of the shop eventually.
DSC03064-1.jpg

That's it for right now, but I hope to keep making steady progress.

Looks really good, is that a SENCO screw-driver you're using? We had one on a firehouse job a couple months back and it was really handy, but you go through those strips of screws in no time!
