Dang, Tom looks, talks, walks and works like my dad did when he was still with us. My dad skipped the peanuts and went for the moon pies or fudge brownies with his diet pepsi. Funny thing I was using my dads tools in my shop today and was thinking about how he would have done what I was trying to do.

My grandfather was a lot like Tom. There wasn't anything the man couldn't make. His world was like that, unlike the better-notter world we live in today. Too many thinkers and not enough doers. Very cool video.
Great video, I'd gladly stop by with a case of Dr Pepper if they allowed me to hang out for the day.
I think all high schoolers should have a class called, "Morales & Ethics". This would be one of the required videos to watch and discuss.

It reminds me of my grandfather's shop with the dirt floor and lineshafts. Truly something out of the first half 20th century. Machinists today are spoiled when it comes to leveling their machines - cant say I know of any dirt floor shops still in business.

Just off Pine street, go by there all the time. Never been in there though - after that, they might have to give tours.

No floors to sweep! I like that. Great look back into the past. My big drill press was an old shaft drive that had been converted to a 3 phase motor and it would drill a BIG hole without a sweat.

That is a part of America that is sadly not very common any more.

Texas country reporter is one of the best shows on. I try to watch it every weekend. They travel all over Texas and meet folks like these and do a story on them. Thanks for sharing.
Great video. The "attitude" or atmosphere towards life, is from times gone by. It's a shame. People can't even take the time to sit down for a family meal these days. I'd go crazy with the dirt floors though. Even with technology what it is today, it shows there is more than one way to skin a cat.

That video sure makes me miss my dad. He was a machinist with a fix anything talent.
We had a lathe and drill press in the basement where Dad would spend alot of time after work and on the weekends

Texas country report is a great show, I watch it whenever I can remember to tune in. That is a cool old machine shop.
Just a dirt floor till the EPA sees it, makes them excavate all the "contaminated" soil out and replace it with concrete to contain all the oils used there. . . .and slaps them with a big fine, then calls their buddies at OSHA.

Love the old Ford pickup...about a '39 or '40 I believe. Looks in profile a lot like the '46 I sold last summer and shipped to Australia...neat trucks.

Fantastic. Hope they can keep it running. But a concrete floor maybe could be an investment... at least to cover those 100 years of oil soaked dirt before EPA finds out.

Man,that was just so cool to see 3 generations working side by side in that old shop. That is the kind of machinery I work with every day and it still works like brand new. Nice thing about those dirt floors,no vibration and will soak up noise as well as fluids.

It reminds me of a friend of my grandfather that had a machine shop here in town. The shop always had that smell of old cutting oil ,had alot of cool old equipment around, he was a veteran of WW2 , could fix or build anything . He had worked for one of the large aircraft companies and had designed and built alot of military projects , I always wished I could have worked with him and picked up just a small part of his knowledge.

Shame those kind of shops are going by the wayside. Had a couple of old guys near where I grew up were the same way, could repair or build most anything out of what seemed like nothing

I love that belt driven saw. There is something philosophical about the way it slowly gets the job done without the need for modern technology. It really makes me wonder - and hate - where this world is going.
