Plans:
40x50x12 stick, brick,
Garage doors
Front: 2 12x8 with a 12x10 in the middle.
Rear: 1 12x10 across from the front mid door
Roofline extended 20' on left side for parking equipment
Saferoom will be 10'x10' inside
Attic trusses the full 70', will be 70'x17' upstairs, plan on having a reloading room upstairs
Been eyeing the Bend pack xpr-10a...

Wife had three conditions:
1. Must include a safe room.
2. Must match or be similar to house.
3. Must be done right the first time.

Let's begin.

Bought 2.6 acres beside us and cut the trees, rough grade, then got a guy to cut that bank down so drainage will be improved. Installed zoysia on hill behind shop which is mowable. Then, the footers were dug, rebar installed for safe room as well. Footers poured, form block played a week later along with a brick form on pull through side. This is where we are at. I do seasonal work and was wanting to be finished by December 2012 :( Enjoy.

Nice garage, We built a garage at work and my boss thought he only needed one ten foot tall door. He regrets it now. The money he saved by installing an eight foot door on the other side was only a few hundred dollars. Now that is the only side we can use for large equipment. Brian

I'll never get used to not having a 4' deep footing. I guess there is nor frost there !

What type of construction is used to make a hurricane proof "safe room" ? Ihave seen them blow 2x4 right through block walls !

The footing is deeper and wider than I wanted, but it's not going anywhere. It's probably 18" deep, 24" wide. The saferoom is an area for our family to go to when tornadoes are threatening. I live in north ms, seen several towns flattened. Makes you think twice when you walk through the rubble.

Do you fill the blocks with a slurry mix after laying. Blocks are not that strong empty?
Do you add ventilation to the room?

I like he overall design with the carport and brick edging..

Yes the blocks are filled with concrete and rebar. The ceiling and walls will be poured at once so it's all tied together. Yes I am leaving two PVC ventsin the ceiling. Running conduit down wall for electrical.

I really like the safe room idea. If I was to ever build one I think I would put it underground. But I'm preparing for a zombie Apocalypse :D

What are you going to store behind that door? Gold bricks? :)

Awesome looking garage! I wish I can have something that nice someday.

It will be safe for sure. Thanks guys, I am running electrical and max line in the wall for air currently...Putting boxes in for 5 ceiling fans and 2 more outside. Compressor will be outside on pull-through. Currently, I have the ingersol rand garage mate 110v, but went ahead and wired 220v for future compressors. Both are on dedicated circuits. 220v in ceiling for lift, one on bench and one by panel. I put receptacles up for liftmaster 3800s, well, where I think they will go...

We are expecting our first child, Thomas Scott on June 25th. I feel like there is so much to do before he gets here. But we are very excited.

Great looking shop. Love the covered porch and the awesome storage area upstairs. I could never afford a mason to lay that much brick out here in California.

Question about the concrete floor though. In the closeup photo it looks a bit rough. Do you plan to cover it with race deck? Looks like it may be tough to broom.

Wondering what the device on the wall in the last photo is?

Very nice shop you have going by the way.
