So I decided to MOD my shop to reclaim some floor space by way of a mezzanine. I wanted it to be a clear span design without support posts. This is what I ended up with from the last two weeks. The ladder was the most challenging part. Everywhere I put it caused some sort of limitation or interference. I wanted it to be easy for the wife to use so that she could access her tables and chairs if needed. The beam overhang was supposed to support the ladder in my original design, but it interfered with the boat in any configuration.
Now, I just have to relocate the shelf racks and contents up there. Will have to trim about 10" off of each leg to accommodate the lower headroom. Also, its pretty dark under there now so lights will be in order.
Thanks for looking.

That is one serious aluminum I beam for a side rail !

Why the cables between the down rods and what are the holes/cables thru the main beam for ?

I'd like to see the connection of the mezzanine to the side posts.

The cables are simply safety cables, just in case something fails. You can see almost everything I have attached overhead has a safety cable, especially the Big *** Fan. It's a cheap and simple peace of mind thing for me.

I went with aluminum just for the weight advantage (159lbs). Its almost 1/5th of what the same size steel beam would weigh. Plus it looks cool

The cables though the main beams are OEM supplied to add triangulated tension to the main beams. They really make a diference once they are installed.
