Compressor air filter for HF 60 gallon?

I was looking at my 60 gallon HF compressor today, and it has what may be the worst air inlet filter I have ever seen. I don't see how much air goes in.

I would like to get a different one, and maybe quieter if that is possible. It has side by side rectangular inlets on the head and bolt holes to the outside of those two ports. I'm not having much luck finding ones that fit this.

Help?

It turns this:

Into this:

The noise level difference after this change is huge. With the old intake filter the noise was deafening, and you couldn't stand to be near the compressor. With the new intake filter, it's much better. You can stand in front of the compressor and carry on a conversation. It's not silent, but I'm guessing 50% lower db level. Well worth the upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. That is perfect, except: Mine is a two cylinder one stage. So I have two ports next to each other. My adapter would be exactly like yours only with two rectangles in the middle instead of the one. It looks like each cylinder on mine had its own intake port.
I called Allparts, and they didn't know of an adapter for that one.

Ah, I see now. Mine is for the 5HP,two stage. Yours is the 3HP, single stage? I first found those part numbers by hunting around the ABAC and Bellaire websites looking for similar pumps with better intake filters.

I have been fishing around for them. I believe it is actually a 3 hp, even though they marketed it as a 5 hp. And yes to the single stage.
I'm sure this is not the only unit that has used this pump. It must not be terribly common though.

I've got the 3.5hp (I think?) single stage 60 gallon compressor. I've never looked at the filter though or taken it out of its housing.

That looks like the exact setup I am looking for for my DV. Where do I get them?

I think I have the right one identified from General Air Compressors in Chicago. 1312100377 adapter. 1312100376 filter
Need to check over the compressor and see if I need anything else before I order.

Holy smokes! The adapter went up 10 bucks since February 24th. I was going to order, but 250% price increases tend to piss me off.

Aren't those the same part numbers I posted in the picture of my invoice? Maybe a picture or dimensions of your inlet would be appropriate. I can measure anything you need from my setup.

You are right! They are the same. The parts guy swears up and down that it is right, and I am seriously doubting him. I have to cover two ports with this adapter. You only have one port to cover. Me thinks they are wrong.

The noise level difference would be worth another $50 to me.

Can you explain how replacing the OE filter with a near same OE filter will lower the noise level much? Or is it simply by having a foam filter versus a deteriorated foam filter that will make a difference?

I ordered a "Quietiner" from my supplier and when it came in it was simply a Glass-Pak muffler that fit over 1" pipe for $30. Put a 90 degree street ell on the head just like INOH did and used the original filter, I think you could get a muffler from a parts store and do the same thing, so yes they do make them much quieter, I can talk to someone on the phone 5' from mine

Just took a look at INOH,s again he used a muffler off a small engine like a Garden Tractor, Lawn Mower probally works good but mine was a muffler for automotive use about 15" long like a "Smitty"

Is that quieter? If so, substantially?

No, not really. dB meter testing shows that routing the air intake up and away from that compressor when it's against a hard surface wall makes no difference in sound levels. YMMV

All of this is well and good if you have a pipe fitting coming off the head. But I have this dual port deal that needs an adapter.
One thing that would concern me about hanging much weight off the head is putting enough stress on it to crack it with all the vibration. I don't want to get too fancy with this. The plastic deal just looked very restrictive, and I figured if I could get it quieter and more efficient, why not try it?

I was checking out a noise last night that has plagued me with this compressor. I know it is the shroud, but I'll be darned if I can pin point it. Took the shroud off and the noise goes away. Those are tough.

I'm not a noise expert, but, here goes. The plastic filter I took off is a straight through design. The air travels straight into the slots on the outside, and continues in a straight line through a very porous piece of foam to the port. Other than the thin piece of foam, there is no sound absorption at all. The new filter on the other hand has a corrugated paper filter, that must help dissipate the sound significantly. Also, the inlet to the filter housing is on the side, which means the air (and sound) has to make a 90 degree turn.

Have you ever driven a carbureted car with the air filter housing off? Much louder than with the filter on.

I think you have a B3800 pump. If so, it looks like this will work:

I knew sound would lessen slightly while making turns and going through a filter, I just did not expect it would lower enough to make this worth while.

Good comparison with a carbureted car and the air filter housing off.

I talked with the manufacturer of the compressor...made in America!
He said that the plastic filter is about as free flowing as anything I will find. So efficiency isn't really an issue there.
The paper filters will filter much much better, and he said that is an issue in dusty environments. Mine isn't. he said also that there is some noise reduction going to the larger housing, but with the high rpm that these single stage pumps turn, it is only going to be so quiet no matter what. So.....I'm skipping it.

Anyone know of an adapter like that for the big slot that serves as the air intake in a Lowes/Kobalt 60gal?
