Well, after many years of living in rental houses the time has come that I have purchased my own space. While looking for homes I knoew I would need the garage space to hold all my wok product as well and give me a space to tackle my weekend projects.

I have landed a decent 3 story townhome with a nice 19x23 double car garage.

Here are some pictures of when we did our walk through and I will keep you updated as things progress.

Here is a plan of what I would like to do:

Welcome and congrats on your first home! There are a few guys who are in the final throws of completing garages very similar to yours. I'm sure as you browse the various threads you will come across similar town home-style spaces and you'll get lots of great ideas. But, it would appear you already have a very solid plan in mind. Good luck executing your plans.

Awesome first place, especially with a balcony escape ladder hehehe.

I'm confused by the two doorways in the garage. I assume the one with the actual door leads into your house but what about the other?

Nice! Looks like you have a decent "clean" slate to begin your mods. Good Luck!

Well we have moved in and started working on the garage!

Completed items:
Added an outlet in the closet for my compressor
Switched out the two lights and replaced with outlets for fluorescents, then added 4 additional outlets for lights.
Hung the lights!! much brighter
Added extension reel on the ceiling.

Next on the list:
Finish the walls, prime, and paint
Plumb airline from closet to center ceiling for hose reel.
Decide on flooring and instal.

I will post some pictures soon.

Question: Can I frame in the water heater/furnace into a small closet to hide them?

Still trying to find an answer if I can build a closet around the furnace and water heater.

Today I started my first attempt at finishing the drywall. The home builder's drywall guy really seemed to rush the grage section and it needs some work.

Question for all of you that have finished drywall like this, is it best to spend the time to finish 2nd and finish coat the drywall your self or just hire a company to finish it so it will be ready for paint? I got a few estimates (around $700) to finish the drywall so I can primer and paint.

I'm a bit surprised that the furnace/water heater are located in the garage where you live (Oregon).
No basement?

I've seen users build a closet out of similar spaces. Last one I recall had louvered doors to better enable air flow.

Well after a long weekend of hard work I was able to moove everything out to make some progress.

First I finished the drywall, mudded and sanded several coats.

Then 2 coats of primer.

Started painting.

Nope... Basements are very rare in Oregon.

I have seen furnaces in indoor closets so I'm thinking it is possible.

mine is in a closet along with gas fired water heater but it has a fresh air intake fan from outside.

Painting is always an excellent step, even just mentally for your own project as you can instantly see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I agree, great job on adding the doors. Really cleans things up and keeps all your stuff hidden out of sight. Keep those pictures coming.

Doors add a great look. I know when i was doing mine, even with clean open shelves and things organized it still look cluttered. Nice work. Great job adding the sink as well, sooo useful.
