Would be nice if they would pull out all the tiny pieces and put an equal number of useful items in there....e.g. all the nutdriver sockets and hex wrenches could be replaced with handled nutdrivers and socket hex wrenches.

It would also be nice if they stopped charging me for my house and just let me live there for free. This set is $80 for 220 pieces, not a whole lot. You can get whatever you want you just have to pay for it.

Not a bad kit to keep in the car or truck for emergencies and oddball times you say only if I had a *** wrench or socket.

I ordered one of these, camevout to $75 with discounts. Went to pick it up and the label said "Made in USA & Taiwan".

Immediately opened it up and checked, all major components, wrenches, sockets, ratchets, drivers, hex keys, etc., Made in USA. A couple of bags of small screwdriver bits weren't marked and looked as though they were not USA made but no big deal so definitely worth the money.

Costco has a 174 piece set for $99 that is essentially the same, it's labeled all made in USA because it doesn't have the cheap bits included.

+1

The Craftsman sets are not everything to everybody all the time. Price points have to be made and sometimes cheap filler items like allen wrenches and screwdriver bits are added. Still though at 36 cents a piece on average, it is a hell of a deal.

If I pick this set up by the handle will all the tools inside fall to the bottom like the rest of my older Craftsman molded plastic cases?

So I picked this up as a gift for a friend of mine who helped me out. All pieces made in China. Kinda disappointed.

  1. I started opening bags and putting parts in their place in the case. You would think one bag would have all the 1/2" drive, deep, 6pt. SAE sockets, another would have all the 1/4" drive, shallow, 12pt. metric sockets... no way, every bag had a mixture of everything.
  2. When I got everything in it's place I was missing 8 pieces. I called customer service and got a woman on the other side of the world. I told her I made a list of missing part numbers which she carefully took from me. I expected they would just send em the missing pieces. She then told me there was nothing she could do except order me a new set or I could bring this one back and exchange it. She told me my local store had one left.
  3. Went to local store and they guy at the tool register was very nice, when I told him I would exchange it but I was going to make sure all parts were in the new case. I was starting to open bags when the tool Mgr. came over and said "Hell, don't do that, we'll just pull what you need off the shelves to complete the set". Good idea but they no longer had the single made in USA sockets that were missing.
  4. He ended up pulling out of the new kit the parts I needed to complete my original kit. As I stated above, everything, in both kits, was Made in USA except screwdriver bits.
  5. Yes, if you close it properly all the parts stay where they belong.

Sears is a screwed up company, I'd short sell them.

Little tip, a piece of cloth cut to the shape of the box or some foam does wonders to keep the sockets in their case. I know what you mean, as soon as you pick it up they all fall out. But put a tiny foam sheet in there and that friction will keep the tools in its place.

The set I got, it was already in the case. Only the Allen keys were in bags. I had it mailed to me, I wonder if that's where the difference is.

CM kits have been made for a while. From what I understand, they are all made overseas. It is hit or miss if you get some older stock that was still made in USA.

Same here. My son got me the set for fathers day. It's a little bigger than I wanted and it doesn't have screwdrivers (was hoping for a travel type kit) BUT I kept it anyway because it works great as a mobile kit to take to the junk yard or even in the shop. I have metric and SAE vehicles so it works out pretty good. Plus it has some of the odd ball smaller sized sockets and minimal duplication between drive sizes. If it had ratchet wrenches and screwdrivers it could almost replace my tool box.

Hmmm, I have spare sets of metric and SAE ratchet wrenches, have to see if they will fit in the holders in the box top and replace the combos that came with it.

IIRC there are no sq drive adapters. I think I threw in a 1/2F x 3/8M for more versatility

I bought this set a few years ago to keep in my daily driver. Augmented with a few other odds and ends, it has met my needs. The ratchets are bad and this is annoying, but they do the job. I would recommend it, expect to those that can afford multiple sets from Snap On.

The 150 pc Made in USA set at Costco has dropped to 59.97 last I checked, I wonder how the contents differ.

Prices ending with .97 are clearance at Costco.

Personally, don't like these sets. Too many hex keys, screw/nutt driver bits, and small sockets. Not enough larger sockets and combo wrenches.

I agree, between black Friday and christmas last year I went craftsman tool crazy and bought a 192 set, then a 220 set and then a genuine USA 250 set. I didn't plan on keeping ALL three but then I came across a dewalt 208 set that uses only 6 pt sockets, has no duplicates, no fluff and came with fine tooth ratchets. I bought it and returned the craftsman junk and never looked back.

What would be the reason a socket set goes up to 13/16" and 19mm in 3/8" drive, but only to 5/8" and 13mm in 1/2" drive? For $80 it's still a good deal, but the selection seems odd to me.
