I'm looking for ideas on storing as many as eight tire/wheels on a wall, overhead. Preferably this would be a wood vs metal project.

Any ideas?

Thanks all.

Probably not what you're looking for, but I use a 2' x 8' Onrax overhead shelf. That lets me keep 2 sets of 4 tires for the race car on it.

This is my solution. Its all 2x4's, and a single piece of 1 3/4 fence post top rail. Its 38" wide inside, enough for my fiance's snowtires, and a spare. Even with all 4 wheels/tires, and the spare, I can hang from it (I'm 230lbs). If you want, I can detail the construction some, but you can see most of it. Its all screwed construction.

G1K,

Any of those tires have wheels in them?
How heavy of chain (diameter) did you use? Probably just a camera trick, but it looks a little light.

Only one of the sets of tires have rims, the rest are just the tires. The picture shows the right side of the right rack slopes down, not an illusion, it does slope. the largest diameter tires fit in that section. The chain is a bit on the light side, but it's been holding strong for a year or so.

I have had racks for years but gave up and went to a 24 x 48 hand cart. I stack 12 snow tires on it and and the cart is nice as you can move it where your working. I store it out of the way in a remote area for the balance of the season. You can find a HD 500#+ capacity cart for $100-$150.

I just park mine on the floor under the bottom shelf of my pallet rack. All you need then is a couple of 2x4s on the floor to hold them in place.............and they are totally easy to get at without any lifting.

Is that a boobie trap?

I've made them in the past out of iron pipe street ells, and bolt flanges, one cross bar with street ells at each end, pick the appropriate length to the wall so the tires don't fall through, then up to a rafter with vertical pipes. if no structure available put a Tee on with an oversized cross part, and slide a pipe through and mount that on opposite walls (assuming this is an a narrower area).

For a tire rack, pipe is your friend...

Finally got a solution to my tire storage problem...

2" x 2" angle iron, rounded the corners off, added larger casters and bolted to my old Craftsman workbench.
