I'm fairly sure it's the same in the USA as it is here in England. The only places that you can
buy new Snap On tools is either with your friendly truck dealer or online through Snap On's
website, and that's it.

However I have noticed that there seems to be an increasing number of sellers on ebay
selling new Snap On tools, and they're selling for less money than the Snap On website.
I'm just wondering where these people are sourcing their tools from.

Is it likely to be mechanics who got a good price on tools from their dealer and decided to
buy them just to sell them on, or is it dealers themselves trying to shift a bit of stock, although
I would have thought Snap On wouldn't like their dealers doing that... Maybe I'm wrong.

Or is it another type of person getting their stock from somewhere... and if it is these people,
Who are they and where are they sourcing their stock from..?

I've heard dealers are not supposed to sell outside their assigned territory. I suspect the new tools on eBay are through a dealer using a front man.

I have sold some items still in the package on EBay. Sometimes you have to buy things to get what you want. I have purchased things for the free stuff and have sold what I don't need. Helps make the items you actually want less expensive or that is the only way to get cool promotional items.

I have sold a lot of new stuff here.

I got them from BOGO offers from the local truck.

I got them from students blowing out the stuff they bought at their discount.

I got them from (what I suspect) guys dumping stuff in other guys territory.

Many people forget; that allot of Snap-on tools are sold to the industrial sector (large companies, aerospace, military, government, vocational schools, etc, many of these get sold off through auctions, when contracts end, contracts/jobs fall through, companies go under, consolidate, tools get stolen, new tools are purchased for new contract and old ones are disposed of, etc. etc.... there are many different scenarios. There is always a "gray market" and pretty much anything can end up for sale... online auctions have made sellers and buyers easier to conduct business with each other. I have seen whole pallets of snapon tools are ebay for sale; these were brand new in the plastic package, must be overstock, industrial purchase stock auctions or a dealer gone out of business etc.
I live near a: university that has a strong engineering dept., a copper mine, air force/army bases, military testing facilities, NASA communications centers and many third party contractors that support the military industrial complex... all kinds of stuff from these places end up on ebay, local flea markets and craigslist. If you bought things from the local government auctions alone; you could get a ton of stuff. I've gotten all kinds of tools; I also think that unmarked tools are almost impossible to trace. With the economy the way it is and many people out of work; allot of stuff is going end up on ebay.

There was a Snap On truck from the next town selling to the guy down the street from me.

As far as the new stuff on Ebay, I was thinking it was the guys buying broken stuff, warrantying, then selling. Someone could send a message to the seller and ask.

I've often wondered if there was knock off Snap On from China out there. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

6 -7 years ago the IM3100 impacts were plastered all over ebay, I believe this was right after they discontinued them. I got one New in the box for $85. Sweet deal! I suppose they were 300+ new. Also, didn't really understand how that happened.

A lot of the stuff on eBay is the stuff on 'special' on the truck! Folks just buy it at the special price, and add a margin! If you see the same item a couple times on eBay you cn probably get it cheaper off the truck!

Picked up a TL72 & FL80 today for a song... thankfully he didn't make me dance.
Posted on kijiji, met up and asked what he paid for the "Hot Deals" free TL&FL when you buy a Torx set. I think I caught him off guard. I said "don't worry about it, we both win".

On a side note, I see what all the Dual 80 fuss is about. Nice ratchets indeed.

I know a guy that has had thousands of pounds worth of Snap-on tools pinched from both trucks and buildings over the years, but him being a garage owner guys come round trying to sell knock off goods on a day to day basis, but not once has he been offered Snap-on tools :dunno: why and where do they go. Is it Snap-on themselves :eyecrazy::eyecrazy: so he will buy more and more
