So a set of mechanics tools just hit the local kijiji...

They are called "Möller Germany", but the box clearly says the tools were "Made in P.R.C.":mad::mad:

Obviously, this is an attempt to invoke the name of one of the very best tool-producing countries in the world when selling standard-issue Red China product.

It happens (or has happened) in Canada, and maybe even the USA, but I thought that Deutschland frowned on such practice. At least, I've never encountered in before...

Any knowledgeable members have any insight on this?

Does Germany permit this kind of thing or is this simply some rogue Chinese manufacturer using the good name of Germany?

on another note... one over looked issue is that with even true "made in germany" products, the laws are much less strict on what can be labeled "made in germany". the raw materials can be totally foreign sourced, and significant production can also be done outside of germany, while still retaining the made in germany claim.

And I'm sure KD doesn't mind them using the "gear wrench" in there either...

They even do this for specialty tools, such as tweezers. They say Swizerland, but they're made in China. DX sells them for under $3.00 per pair. No way you can get a real pair of Swiss made tweezers for that.

Disappointed.

Angry.

I can see a Chinese company being dishonest, but I was under the impression that Germany aggressively protected the "Made in Germany" label and monitored its use.

I can assure you these are not made in Canada nor for the professional. Pure garbage.

Sadly, I've been seeing that a lot as well!

Not only Swiss and German, but also British and USA. As always, buyer beware! If you don't see 'made in' before the country, assume the worst!

Tough on firms such a King **** though, who have used the mark 'King **** - England' for years, probably never thinking any shyster would dare add something like that to a Chinese tool!

It's sharp practice, and though the importers obviously think it's legal, I'm not convinced it is in the U.K. Only a couple of years ago, I seem to recall that a British clothing firm was heavily fined for selling an 'I - Italian' line that was actually made somewhere else! They thought they were safe because the clothes didn't say 'made in', but they were not!

I have that exact same set, bought in the US for maybe $7. I knew going in they were Chinese. Except for the fact that the case cracked in 3 pieces, I've gotten decent use out of them. Good for opening up computer cases, replacing watch batteries, fixing eye glasses, etc.
