the birth of the "Tough Nut Garage"(my wife says I'm a nut and hard to please, named by her!), had a big couple of days, after lots of drama with the first builder(theres a thread for that), followed some advise on here and made some changes and went local, instead of getting a whole building their way, I ordered just a roof, I am siding the rest myself like a pole barn, seems to be going well. the roof and frame guys finished up saturday around 2. I worked on it till about 5 doing the nailer boards etc. since my "crew" is family and etc (free), I cant run them to death, so I did the front side nailer boards myself and had help with the longer more awkward ones to the back and side

I took fathers day off due to rain and spent some time with the family, and hit it at 7:30am and got some done before the heat of the day kicked in. fyi this is 22 wide by 20 deep.

framing by workers

end of day one

9am fronts done

2pm - end of my work day, time for lunch and cleanup.

things to add to finish panels, nailer boards on front and back for upper row of panels bottom. I didn't measure good and they shoulda been 2" higher, nothing a few extra boards wont cure. and some of the shorter mid-board nailers are crooked, lol, but working alone is what it is, and I'm ok with it on the short runs.

instead of panelling the top 12" on both sides, i'm adding semi-translucent "SeaCoast Panels" to let in some free light and make use of the useless space above the framing braces. they come in 26"x96" wide panels, that gives me 13" if I cut them in half, hope that made sense. I'd use the 12 footers but no real way to get them home without them flailing in the wind like a dog tail, lool. I'm liking the way this is looking, and I think this was the way to go.

thanks for looking, its getting there, a few more days like today later this week and it'll be something maybe.

ty conor, the lot is a tight fit but it works :)

in other news got restless and through up a panel to see if they laid out like I wanted, needs a little adjusting, but I think its a winner. should let in lots of light and with a little work keep out the weather.

another day some more progress. got off work and put two more hours in, left off the right side of the front so we can line the siding up at that end without math. done for the day, hopefully more tomorrow. thanks for looking :)

No picture update. I got the walk in door on and got the corners foamed and cut down ready for trim. All that's left to be a shell is finish the light boards and put up a door and trim the corners. Put in about four hours yesterday after work and finally stopped as it was getting dark. It was a good day :D

was working alone today so not alot got done, but what I did get done was pretty important.

first pic is the door up on a roller stand, made it a lot easier to hold the boards in place and screw them down when you have it near horizontal!

second photo is the latch it was disassembled so I could screw the bracket down where there was metal. dont mind the light coming in its from the hanging bracket, had to cutout the siding to fit around them seeing as I was doing things out of order and all. I'll fix that up before paint.

I used a leftover panel from the outside to keep square. corners are held by metal Simpson plates. after the panels were hung and it was back horizontal I added 3 horizontal 2x4 runners all held by plates like the corners. I didn't get a photo of this for some reason, but imagine 3 horizontal boards on the back and you get the point! They were left off the initial framing to cut weight and make my life easier lifting and holding while maneuvering the stand, so went with bare minimums.

door fully opened

door closed

seen in photos but not important, bottom roller for door open side and capture plate for when its closed were also added. thats all for today, thanks for looking.

No photos today but I am putting up radiant barrier and no its not insulation but the metal roof above is 114 degrees checked with a laser temp and on the underside its 83 degrees!! The more important part is that its waayyy more comfortable in here!!

Clouds have parted 145 degrees on the bottom of the roof and on the other side of the radiant its holding at 80 degrees. I didn't expect it to do this well but I am impressed!
