Dear Friends,

It was one year ago today that I rolled out the idea for what became the first annual Epstein's Day event. It's time to start considering participating in the event this year if you are so inclined.

In a nutshell, Epstein's a small family-owned and operated business with a long tradition of providing quality tools and excellent customer service. Jori Sackin himself is here among us in the GJ community. Epstein's focuses on USA-made products whenever possible, often offering items made here that compete in price with their foreign equivalents. You can also ask for your shipping boxes to be customized with artwork. This blew my mind when I first learned about it. I save all of mine and use it to decorate my garage.

Anyway, it makes sense to me to connect our July 4th celebrations of our nation and its rich history to an event to support a company that represents what America used to be and still is in places. If you wish to participate all you need to do is place an order on July 4th (midnight to midnight is how I look at it) and mention in the comments field that you are participating in Epstein's Day.

Jori has allowed me to share the following news about some small incentives for this year's event:

Each order that comes through on Epstein's day that has some comment referring to Epstein's day will get:

A free armstrong screwdriver. http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/Wes...ge/66-440.html

The first 100 orders with a Wright item will get a free Wright t-shirt. Please specify size. We'll try to accomodate.

Each order over $100 gets a free ratcheting craftsman screwdriver (along with the armstrong SD). http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/Wes...rge/47473.html

If you want to see last year's thread about the event, look here:
http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154512&highlight=Epstein's

Also, here is the thread where many of us shared pics of our orders once they came in:
http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154758&highlight=epstein's+day

I hope to match or surpass last year's event in terms of numbers of participants. You can order one small item or one giant pile, it's up to you.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Oh, and here is a link to the HJE website:

On a final note: Epstein's finds and offers USA-made products that I never even knew were available, often from small family-owned companies. For example, when I just went over there to copy the web address, I saw that they had just added a line of work gloves made in the USA by a company down in Knoxville. A week or so ago they added all sorts of hardware (shackles, turnbuckles, bolts etc.) from a company in Chicago. I love it.

Nice, maybe I will try some of those Knoxville gloves that showed up on the Daily Dispatch yesterday. And order something from Wright at 12:01 in the morning so I can get a shirt ;)

I wish Jori the best! But I need to pass this time, funds are low, and I ended up with some quality control issues on my Wilde stuff.
Along with the poorly ground chisels I had mentioned from the last buy, I recently went to use the bent needle nose pliers, and the tips don’t even close together.

I'm about due for an Epstein order. However rather than having an annual Epstein day I have some other suggestions.

I really like the idea of supporting USA manufacturers and small businesses. I'm sure they appreciate the business and would like to have the business throughout the year rather than having several hundred orders to fill in a several day period. There are other manufacturers I'd like to see involved; Enderes, Wright, Wilde, Armstrong, Moody, etc. Maybe even Snap-on, they manufacture in the USA.

I'd like to see manufacturers/small businesses get more business AND customers be recognized for purchasing. How about offering discounts to GJ members? How about offering discounts to customers that reach certain levels of purchasing? How about waiving shipping above a certain sales level? Maybe we need a Garage Journal Alliance for manufacturers/resellers?

I'm about due for an Epstein order but I don't want to wait until July 4th and then risk items being out of stock or shipping delays due to the holiday and higher than normal volume of orders.

I think there might be a better way and I'm sure the manufacturers/small businesses would welcome the business year round.

I'll drive down to the store Saturday Morning and take some pics if the ole camera cooperates anymore. Fascinating place, along with interesting items.
I remember a B-52 periscope that sat in the store for decades...
Boxes of **** sitting around, Quality Tools also...

Wilde is only one brand among many that they carry, as you know. Besides, you know they'd take care of you on any defective tools.

The finances thing is a valid reason for staying out, though. No shame there.

There's always a better way, but before last year we didn't do anything like this. I'd like to see it remain as an annual tradition.

That doesn't mean we can't do other stuff. In fact, we do. We supported Westling Machine on New Year's Day and Wilde on a Wednesday some months back.

Also, I believe that Jori is ok with a flood of orders in one day. That being said I am sure they would appreciate increased sales all year. But events like this increase the likelihood of that happening. Some people might not even know about HJE before reading this thread.

I know Jori would replace what is bad, but it is not his fault. I just feel that Wilde is not producing the quality they were previously and I will not support them.

Jori helped me out a ton rebuilding after the fire. I really am to the point where a don't NEED many more tools, but I sure do want them.

I could easily punk down several hundred dollars on non Wilde stuff there.
money is an issue now. after being unemployed for so long it felt good to be able to make an income and buy stuff. well I bought too much stuff.....

once again I do wish Jori the best!!:beer:

sounds like my shop!

I started going to Epstein's before I could walk, my dad would go there and get tools and other stuff. When I was old enough my dad bought me my first set of tools there for my birthday, Wright Socket Set. Mr Epstein gave me a flashlight when I was a little kid, it was fun. When I was older I bought my Kennedy Rollaway and top box there, Lots of tools and specialty tools. Things I could never find anywhere else. Love that store!
I never knew so many people knew about it!
LEGENDARY!

I'm all for this as well, but the problem is who is going to do the legwork and organize. Volunteers are needed men.

Epstein's can get the Wright full polish combo wrenches too, correct? If so, sign me up for an XL shirt!

I'll buy a couple on the 4th to fill out my metric set.

It would be amazing to have, say a 10% discount over $100 maybe? The other incentives are nice, but not necessarily needed. I'll be trying to put an order together.

I bought some Wright stuff on Wilde Wednsday, it was all great except for the scrapers. It seems they were not pressed in far enough..

I bought a set of 3, and all 3 came like this. I could see one come this way, but all 3?

Once again, all the other stuff was great. I purchased a split pin punch set and multiple awls. All top shelf.

I know I could have sent them back to Epstein, but being in Canada it's just not worth it.

I think I read somewhere on here when this issue was brought up that those are pressed in as far as they need to go. Scrapers aren't subjected to much physical force, so I don't think those shafts are going to pop out. I think someone on here said the holes in the handles are drilled deeper than they need to be, too.

I hope my memory is correct.

Thanks for the reply Bull.

However, I think its a lack of quality control.

Why not press them in all the way? Why drill them so deep then? It's looks unprofessional.
