Hey all,

I've posted a few old pics on the board, but here are the latest and greatest. This garage was built last year. It is 80x60 and I use it to store all the toys and work on the cummins. It has a Rotary 2 post lift (EH) and a Champion air compressor. I needed the 16ft height for the fifth wheel and decided on a 4/12 pitch roof to keep it from looking too "commercial". I also had the overhangs installed for the same reason. My center door is a 16ft x 16ft door so that I could back the 5th wheel into it. The doors to the left and right of it are 20x12 doors.

In the pics below you can see numerous pics including:

-Electrical. I had 400 amps metered. I don't know if I can use that much but you never know. MY father in law was awesome and spent his spare time wiring the garage. He did all the electrical receptacles and the HO lights above. Thanks Stan.
-AC. I bought this 8 ton AC unit from a local company that was going out of business. It was new in the box and I got it for $350. Now I just need to hook it up and make it work. God it's hot this time of year.
- Propane is piped into the building from the outside. I use this for heating in the winter.
- Beer fermentation cellar. I built this shed within a shed to maintain fermentation temperatures for homebrew. Unfortunately I haven't been able to brew since I built it so it's a fancy closet right now.

This is an awesome forum. I Look forward to learning much and sharing the the knowledge I've gained over the years.

Thanks!

I am so jealous that I had to go and get the wife and show it off to her as what a garage that I could dream for would look like...H

Hopefully your wife is as understanding as mine! This garage has more than twice the square footage of our house! To your wife: "PLEASE LET HIM BUILD ONE!"

I had to re-check whether I was still on Garage-Journal and didn't click on "BARN-Journal" by mistake!:wtf:

Of course, once I saw the pool, I thought: this might be "Recreation Journal"...

But, I guess it has some tools, a lift, a few cars....must be a Garage...and a damn fine one at that!

Hi John,

Thank you! The builder put some sort of standard concrete sealer down on the floor. It seems to be wearing thin in parts so I'm not sure what I will do once it wears out.

Hey Wharvey. Wanted to know, with the propane setup does the hose or black pipe lead to the propane tank? Also, what do you have it hooked to as the igniter?

Hey Neal,

The black pipe goes to the tank. The hose is a 50 ft hose that I connect to a large propane heater that I bought from Granger. The picture only shows one of the hoses. I have another one about 8 feet to the left of that one that splits off of the same pipe. The heaters have igniter's built in.

Wow, I'm just beginning to explore my options for this type of structure. Would be willing to share some of the budget details. I'm sure you compared cost to stick framing, how did that work out?

Hi there,

PM me and I'll give you all the details. I even have the plans in an email somewhere. I didn't compare to stickbuilt because I knew that I wanted a metal building and with the size I was looking for it was just more practical to go with a free span steel structure (no columns in the way or anything).

Homebody: Thanks! : ) I guess I love being hated then.

B-Power-B: It's not much to look at but I can take some shots for you. I hope to kick the brewing hobby back up soon. I have a couple of all grain kits lying around that need to see some warm water. I bought a plate chiller and only used it twice before getting pulled away for a while - kills me to see it just sitting there! The building is 6x6x8 with fully insulated walls. I plan to add an AC unit to the building to control the temp in there in the summer and I have a portable heater that can be used in the winter. The plan is to use it for fermentation, conditioning, keg carbonation and storage for starters.

Fantastic garage  Just the right size to. I can only wish I had something that was large enough to be called an indoor driving arena :lol_hitti

Hey Wayne, how far are you from the coast? I would suppose with that Cobia, not too far. I grew up spending many summers out at the southern tip of Wrightsville Beach and those are some fabulous memories...

Awesome setup!!

Thanks Kevin. My 3 kids use it as their indoor scooter arena. It drives me up the wall when I'm trying to work, but they have a blast doing that.

Mike thanks for the compliments. We live in the Raleigh area. I just bought the boat 3 or 4 months ago and have taken it out twice so far (I'm still learning). The last trip was out of Morehead City about 35 miles offshore. It was awesome! Our next trip is planned for Murrels Inlet in September weather permitting.

Hey Trent! Thanks a lot for your compliments. I was tempted to go even bigger myself, but doing that would have definitely put me way over budget. This one was a little over 100k. If you want the detailed breakdown please PM and I'll be more than happy to share. There's nothing like living in the country where you can do what you want without a HOA or city gov't telling you how big is big enough, huh? : ) There is one steadfast rule about garages -- "it can never be too big!!!".

I like your 50's style diner idea. One dream of mine is to build an irish bar area in the house (after a much needed home expansion).

Thanks Bob. No matter how big the garage is you will always find ways to fill it up. If you would be happy with one half the size, then double it! That's how I ended up with 80x60 and it's starting to feel cramped in certain areas. Who knows what 30 years of stuff will do to it. : )

Hi Mad57, sure I'll get some pics for you tomorrow! I had an electrician install it, but I'll open the cover and snaps some pics for you in the morning!

Jonny, we love the boat. It's a 27 fter and we've taken it to the gulf stream several times; when the rough NC waters let us that is. I've dealt with a lot of stress in my life, but nothing compares to being a newb captain trying to dock a 27 ft boat in a marina with 20 kt winds. OMG I'm still embarrassed thinking about it. : ) I got the fan from Grainger (grainger.com). I have Farm Bureau insurance so am able to order from them.

Everyone else, thanks a bunch for your compliments. I love the garage and spend lots of time out there.

Wayne
