Suburban Neo-Vintage 3 Car Garage

Well, I've been a mostly lurking member of The Garage Journal for almost 4 years now, so I suppose it's about time I posted some pics of my humble hideout.

I'd be lying if I said I began with a theme in mind. In putting the place together I mostly worried about function, at first. But as I began to add pieces to my tool and storage arsenal I started paying closer attention to the aesthetics of the entire package. It was then that I decided to go for a look that I call 'Neo-Vintage' - which is really just a funky sounding way of saying I took some new stuff and some old stuff and mixed it together in an attempt to make some cool stuff. So here we go...

I apologize for some of the pics, I was playing with the settings on my phone and some of the images are less than stellar. I'll try retaking some of them either in the morning or evening, when the lighting is best.

I have to say with no reservations, that your place tops anything I have seen on Garage Journal, or anywhere else. My hat is off. Where do we mail your prize?

Your garage looks awesome. I particularly like the color of the cabinets underneath the benches.

My only question is, where do you work on messy projects? I'd be too scared to mess up that pretty wood. My bench top looks like a couple grease, paint, and oil bombs were set off on it....

Neat Garage. I really like the galvanized corrugated metal used as wainscot. If I ever get my space together I'll do the same.
Your '72 truck is awesome too. Those old trucks look best with matching dull paint and corrosion on the shiny parts.
I used to have a '72 Cheyenne. It was amazingly complete but super rusty.

Thanks, CNG. I have many more that weren't included in the pics because of the angles. I've been collecting for about 6 years.

Thank you. It's actually 3 pieces. I used 2 and a half sheets of 3/4 ply and cut and assembled them to arrive at a top that's 24"x126"x1.5".

That's a very shallow cabinet I made to hide my electrical and tv and sprinkler equipment.

My spray can storage is attached to the inside of the door on the Goodyear cabinet.

I beat on them pretty good, but when I need to get extra rough I have a 20"x30" piece of 3/4 ply that I set on the top before wailing away. I also have a bench I built on what I call my 'garage porch' that I use if a project is extra nasty.

Thanks! And welcome to TGJ! Mine was pretty rusty to begin with also. I've been working on it off and on for about 4 years. With the exception of some interior stuff, it's now pretty much done.

Minwax fast-drying polyurethane. Four coats, I believe. I've had the wall bench stained and poly'd for about 3 years now and it's held up great. The finish on the island bench is about 6 months old.
