Well it has finally begun.
A little background. in 2009 we purchased 20 acres on a mountain with plans to build our life home on it and raise our kids. We have been trying to line up getting our house built for three years. Some title issues, some economy issues, but finally it has started.

2700 sq.ft. house, 1700 sq.ft. garage. This will be a slow start, but hoping to move in at the end of the year.

The garage will have a 4'-0" wide vaulted ceiling where it meets the house. I will construct a climbing wall full width of the garage.
I have a bouldering wall in my current garage that my son climbs on weekly (if for a few minutes at a time) I plan on the kids and myself using the wall for fun as well as strength training.

I haven't had a chance to lay out all my equipment and benches in the garage. One two year old and one 6 month old makes it hard to do much lately.

This garage will not be completed when the house is completed. It will be finished inside and out, but as we all know, the real construction is when you start making it your own.
We will move into the house and I will begin to slowly bring the garage to what I want it to be. Functional and comfortable to work in.
All electrical and plumbing needed for future devices will be in the walls before drywall goes up making it easier to retrofit everything.

The trusses will be Scissor type so I can go with a lift in the future.

There will be two 10'X8' garage doors and one 12'X8' garage door with an option for another in the future.

Foundation poured.

Here is the rough layout.

Here is a link to my current garage. No up to date photos. I will get down there and get some up to date photos and update that thread. I've been slacking lately!

Nice layout, but I have never understood why the south does not have a basement. Extra storage and room for mechanical's.

No storage needed. When we are done with something, we sell it or donate it.

Not that I disagree with what you are saying. We just don't need the extra space.

Now that being said, I think I found an 80,000 BTU propane Mr. Heater Big Maxx for the garage pretty cheap. Going to try and pick it up this week.

^^^x2 on the great plan. Look forward to your progress. You're other thread was nice as well. I just moved into a house with a 5 car tandem that I should start a gallery on. I told my wife the same thing, "Hope you like the inside, because this garage is all mine!"

Thanks everyone! I hope to get pictures each week of the progress.
The carpenters are suppose to start this week or next week.

Is the computer drawing one that you did and if so what program did you use?

I did the computer drawing. I have worked on AutoCad since the early 90's in high school. This was on AutoCad release 2004. I have new releases, but 2004 is better than the new ones IMO.
My Father in law designed the house for us. All hand drawn. There was a change needed and I also wanted an electronic copy in case we wanted to change anything or send it to anyone. First person I sent it to was the interior designer.

Here is my first purchase for the new house!
80,000 BTU Propane heater brand new from craigslist.

While I am waiting on the carpenters to start. (It may be another week or so)
I may as well show what will be in the garage.
My current go fast goodie is this STI. Lots of horsepower and traction is fun on the mountain roads not to mention any other road.

I also have a new Tundra that I needed due to my tallness and my kids. Previous to this truck, I owned a double cab Tacoma and with my son behind me, he would only have a couple of inches leg room and my knees were almost hitting the dash. Good reasons for an upgrade.
Friend shot this rolling shot last weekend.

Planning on raising the front to level it tomorrow. I just installed the new wheels on the STI also. I'll probably put the STI on the trailer and go get both of them aligned at the same time.

I also have an old 64 Triumph that I will be digging into in a couple of years.
An old ex girlfriends dad was selling it and I had always told him that I wanted it when he got ready to sell it. Well I picked it up from him.

Pretty ugly right now. It will be a full on build once I get started in it.
Probably going to lose the fenders, new seat, new oil tank and maybe....maybe widen the tank and some drag bars. Haven't decided yet. No hurry really.

These are pics that he sent me. I will get some larger more detailed pictures soon.

Excellent! Any pictures of the views you will have from your house? Looks to be pretty tree lined at the moment - are you going to be opening any of that up?

Looking pretty sweet on your hill! I've been traveling to Atlanta for work for the past three years and I've never understood the aversion to having a great basement to beat the heat down South! I've been to Africa but never been hotter than Manhattan and Atlanta in the Summer.

Here is the view out of the kitchen window. The close smaller trees will be removed for the view to be easily seen.

We contemplated a basement in this house, but decided against it. We plan on being in this house the rest of our lives and figured we would complain about the stairs when we got older, so we eliminated them.

This should be a really nice build. You might regret that basement decision though. It's a lot easier to access duct work, plumbing and electrical, instead of crawling under the house. Also, it acts as a great area for your water heater and mechanical units instead of sacrificing precious square footage on the ground floor.

Either way, this will certainly come out beautiful!

I agree a basement would have been a great idea, I'd just plan for an elevator......OTOH, not having one helps keep you from accumulating unneeded, unused ****.

This house will be a contemporary minimalist house. My wife and I both dislike clutter (except maybe in the garage) and anything that doesn't get used, gets sold, thrown out or donated.

Currently waiting on Trusses to arrive.
We went up to the property on Friday and I was unarmed. Left my camera at home. Waiting on the wife to send me pics off of her iPhone and I will share what we have at the moment.
All the outside walls are covered and everything is ready for trusses. Maybe a Tuesday delivery. Just have to hope the weather holds off for the install on Wednesday/Thursday

I picked up an Elkay floor mount water fountain cooler for the garage off of craigslist. It will go beside the entry into the house.

Very cool house & garage. Now about that Triumph.... lol.. The frame may very well be from a 64 as well as the rear wheel. The engine is probably a later 750 due to having rubber mounted carbs but they kept the right side shift which is easy to do. Most likely a 5 speed trans as well but could still be a 4 speed. Post the engine numbers or PM them to me and I'll tell you what you have. Hard to say from a picture. If the numbers start with "DU" it could still be an older 650 though. Front end & front wheel are from a mid to late 70s Triumph 750 as well. Nice setup and the disc brake is WAY better than the junk they were using in 1964. I had one I built very similarly and rode for 30 years until getting the Harley I have now. The early frame with added on hardtail combined with the modern disc brake front end makes for a nice light little scooter that will blow off a stock Sportster like it's chained to a tree... The only difference with mine was that it was an older 650 engine with a Sonny Routt 750 big bore kit (different bore & stroke combo than a stock 750) added on. If you need any advice or need something looked up shoot me a PM. I messed with old Triumphs for 40 years and even had a part time British bike shop out of my garage for a few years. Still selling off the remaining used parts on Ebay.

Awesome bit of information there! I will take you up on the other information.
I know the carbs are off a Honda 750 something. Planning on swapping those for something else. Maybe fuel injection? Since it is a hack bike already, may as well keep with the layout. Have to do some research. No hurry at all for this. Just a fun project.

Here are the pictures from last Friday. Doesn't look like I will be able to get up there with the good camera before the trusses go up. The crane is scheduled for Thursday.

The elevation of the garage floor is going to come up quite a bit.

Front porch will be poured concrete.

Well it DID rain on Saturday leaving some puddles in the house, but it didn't keep anyone from working during the week.

Got the trusses 90% finished. Sheeting and roofing this week, plumbing and electrical next week.
Some pictures.

Looks great! Really like the extra height from the truss layout and the extra room from the bump out.

Nice setup! I was just telling my wife the other day that we need a 4 or 5 car garage. Our 3 car is packed right now, and with some thoughts on future toys and a workshop area, we will run out of room!

You have a good garage layout. And room to expand for the future. Personally, I would go ahead and add that 4th door now. Costs are minimal compared to what you will spend later, plus it will be nice to have access to that bay even if used for storage.

One comment/suggestion on the inside house. I noticed you have a room next to your master. I am guessing nursery or office, possibly a guest room. Anyhow, my point is this, my first house I owned had a master bath with a door from the bedroom and the hallway like you have shown and consequently people thought it was okay to use the master bath when they needed. Maybe you are different than me, but I don't like it. That's my personal space so I would wall that in, or possibly put in a "hidden door". From the hallway, maybe it looks like a bookshelf but with the right pull it swings open.

I'm going to ask an ignorant question here, where's the floor? I'm not familiar with building the walls first and floor last, how does it work?
They will pour the concrete sometime this week. If you aren't building directly on the concrete, you can wait to pour it.

I will see how much it would cost me to close that area in vs get a garage door for it. If the costs are similar, I will think on it. Thanks.
Only storage in this garage is car parts. All work and some play.

You know....heh....I was thinking the other day that we can see all the way into the main bath.
The fake wall would be nice as long as my wife would close it...I like things like that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Things are looking good but I think your in trouble here. That gal there is already making plans on how best she can use all that space ;) .

lg
no neat sig line
She has her kitchen. She knows not to mess with my garage.

Nice design, keep the pictures coming.........

Took pictures this past Friday. Had to go to New York for a wedding, so I never got around to pulling them off of the camera.

No change in the garage except the window got installed. Waiting for the concrete to be poured.
I picked out some garage doors. Have to pick out the type of windows that are going in them now.

Electrician is almost done with the house part of his installation. I am waiting on my Electrical Engineer friend to finish with the lighting calculations on the garage. I don't want blinding light in there and definitely don't want to under light it.
