Hey guys, I need some help. I bought a push to connect quick coupler 1/4, to use with my Rapidair setup. It's actually a Rapidair part I bought from Northern Tool yesterday, while out of town shopping. I didn't get a coupler plug to go with it cause I had some at home. Well, they are too short and won't lock in, do they make different length plugs? I went to Harbor Freight and Lowes and the ones they carry are like the ones I have? Please help :eyecrazy:

There are two types of quick connects: automotive and industrial. You have to pick on or the other because the two systems are not interchangeable.

I'm know of the different styles, and the push to connect coupler I bought says "use with industrial style plug". The end looks correct, it just isn't long enough to lock in, the nut bottoms out before it can reach the lock, and the ones I found at HF and Lowes are the same way. :(

RJ, thank you for trying to help, I really appreciate it. I looked at the chart and I even searched for the part number M-style for the push connect type, but I'm not sure if I can tell a difference in it, and what I have. If they are different, it isn't much, you'd think there would be an obvious difference. It seems like this sort of thing always happens to me :). By the way, where at in eastern NC? I am too

Can you post up a link to the Rapid air coupler you bought or at least the part number of it? Like RJ said there are many styles out there.

I tried Rapidair's website and Northern Tool and as luck would have it, nothing comes up. I'll try to upload a picture of the package.

A and D are nearly identical and easily mistaken for one another (one is Industrial, the other is the "short lincoln). C is the one known as Automotive. The long one is a long Lincoln, and is rarely found nowdays.

Stick with ones described as Automotive or Industrial. Home Depot sells a universal coupler that accepts all three of the short ones.

Don't you guys have Nitto fittings over there? Nitto are much higher flow than any others pictured.

This may sounds kinda stupid, but are you holding back the "collar" so to say while you are jamming the other end in?

I've had a friend have a hell of a time using the push to connect (no need to hold back the collar) on all of mine because he was used to the traditional, hold back collar, jam in other end, release collar, let go method.

No, the problem I'm having is, the end that you push in to connect, bottoms out on the nut before reaching the lock. :willy_nil

I also bought two of the push to connect type that have the button release, and they work with the plugs I have. When I compare them, the depth of the balls or locking area, is not as deep on the button release style, as they are on the Rapidair coupler.

I think your going to have to take it back and have the store match it up with the proper plug or get a refund. I too could find nothing in the rapidair information on that p/n. They don't even show a push to connect coupler.

The push to connect coupler is actually a Dixon series D, that's what's stamped on the part.
