Some background. I decided to put my husky deep offset metric set(including a heyco 12x13) in my car toolbag. I assembled a set of deep offsets for home use. I bought a gearwrench 8x10,armstrong 12x14,craftsman USA 17x19. I ordered a stahwille deep offset 13x15 from amazon in may. Been on back order w/ no delivery in sight for a while. I then ordered a 18x21 stahlwille from amazon that was in stock but required 1-2 extra days processing. One week later I canceled and bought a craftsman usa 16x18 from ace. I then ordered a stahlwille 21x24. It actually shipped and arrived at my post office today. Hopefully it gets delivered today. I will take a picture if it and compare to my craftsman USA 13/16x15/16. BTW all the wrenches were from cripe, sears(sale) and ace(coupon).

[/IMG] Note the scatches on the hazet from being stored in a metal harbor freight wrench holder. Polished craftsman appears to have held up better in metal holder.

I have a whole Stahlwille set (6-22mm) coming from Amazon. Nice to see the comparison between the other brands.

I think the stahlwilles are the nicest of the bunch.

How does the Hazet compare to the Stahlwille?

The hazet has a smoother finish than the stahlwille. Both are statin but the stahlwille has a textured finish. The stahlwille is thicker where the wrench bends into the box end. Stahlwilles are a liitle bit longer than hazets of the same size. Hazet box ends are polished more ie shinier.

And, which would you prefer?

I am going to pick up a set of either the Hazet or Stahlwille but can't make my mind up.

I like the stahlwilles a little better. Pricing for stahlwille is decent on amazon. Hazets are expensive. The 20x22 hazet was bought for 38.90 plus $10 shipping on eBay back in January when I used the 22mm end to remove pivot shaft nut to remove uppercontrol arm (to replace bushings)that was right underneath exhaust manifold in my dakota r/t. If stahlwille was avaible on amazon back in january I would have saved $$$ and got a stahlwille.

How old is that Hazet? There's no Flank Drive on it or the Crescent.
I'm a novice mechanic, thanks for the info. My best friend is a mechanic so i know the importance of good tools.Funny thing is a paid big $$$$ so I wouldn't round off the 22mm nut on the pivot shaft to frame nut on my dakota r/t. The wrench performed well. No rounding or even a hint of damge. However my R/T is garage kept w/ 50,000 orignal miles and the pivot shaft nuts were hit w/kroil oil before removal.

That seems an expensive way to get a wrench set, but you are getting a few premium brands in there. That is always nice.

I started out that way too on a few wrench sets. I learned what worked best, and which I liked more doing it that way. Later I changed up the most used to better brand matched sets when the money came.

I figure the 13x15 stahlwille that's on order will get used alot in my daughters lumina. And the 21x24 on the dakota suspension. The craftsman 16x18 and 17x19 not sure of their use down the road. The armstrong 12x14 is toyota territory(we have 2 Toyotas). 8x10 gearwrench not sure where that will be used. But least I have a pretty complete set. I like trying out the differant brands.

It's so refreshing and nice to see an ecclectic mix of great brands in one set.

Most people on here are so Bat **** OCD crazy about everything matching
within their sets you don't see it very often, and also to be fair most people
tend to buy complete sets in one go anyway for the cost saving (like me)

I really like the Stahlwille design the most... If it wasn't so expensive here in
England I would probably have a few bit's by now.

Expensive? I thought they'd be cheaper over there since you're closer to Germany...

You're right, maybe I should put it into context. Here in the UK we have huge
amount of Facom dealers which keeps the prices very keen, and IMHO Facom
tools are as good as anything I've used. So for that reason 70% of my tools
are Facom.

As Monte very kindly linked... the spanner set's are fairly reasonable but I can
get the Facom's a bit cheaper... It's the socket sets that Stahlwille are very
expensive here, and because of so few sellers it's very hard to find a good
deal on them... where as becuase of the hundreds and hundreds of Facom
dealers great deals pop up quite often.

I know in the USA Facom is expensive, so Snap-On or Williams or SK are a
better option due to more availability......... Where as here, it's just the opposite,
and even though we have Stahlwille and Hazet, the availability is limited. So for me
the best value tools are the made in England Britool tools, Facom and for a high
quality/good price mid tier tool range, the Halfords Professional range (Rebranded
Gearwrench) are the ones to get.

Value is the key here... If I had a Snap-On, Stahlwille, Hazet and a Facom spanner
in front of me right now trying to judge them on quality would be impossible, and
even under lab testing conditions I'm sure the differences would be very minor.
So if you take quality out of the equation, you're left with...

1. Which one do i like the look of the most
2. Which one has the best Ergonomics
3. Which one has the best availability
4. Which one cost the least amount of money

So even though I really like Stahlwille, I like the looks of the Facom just as much if not
a touch more, the availability is easier with multiple vendors and it costs less... Job Done.

I researched this on garage board journal. Apparently, according to monte(big hazet user) the 630 deep offsets don't have flank drive. Neat wrench and I'll keep it;however if I had known this I would have bought something else w/ flank drive. The hazet does perform well without it. The crescent dates to 1988.
