Bought this set up in June 2012. 900 sq.ft. home for my gf and I who have been together almost 11 years. no marriage in the future... HELL NO.. and she agrees!! That's why shes a keeper! lol. and neither of us want kids! The house has a full basement with new foundation and a new roof. The house currently only has 60amp and the garage is 30 amp and that WILL NOT work... lol. When our Mustang sells (2001 GT 61K and MINT) we will be upgrading to 200 amp house and 100 amp garage. Along with a DirecTV and Ethernet line and gas line ran to the garage for a ceiling mounted heater...

Garage was added to the property around 2008.

Here is the house and garage when we first bought it. For (unfortunately) being in the city, its 2 lots deep so its big for being in the city. around 3/8 acre. We did a complete living room and 3 bedroom updating before we moved in. House was built in 55 or 56 and still has original kitchen so that is next!

Here is the garage when we bought it (previous owners boat they hadn't taken yet, not mine). Foundation is nice and high along with the windows. Inside is normal height of course to the windows. 10' tall ceilings and an open canvas to do what I wanted!!!!!!

9622739552_95b48b14f5_b.jpg

The first was a total of about 16 ton of stone to do the entire driveway. you can see in the first pic how bad the driveway was. #8's from the side patio to the road and 410 to dust from house to garage. Ill do another 4ton of #8 when the 410 are all settled! There was about a 5" drop from the concrete garage floor to the stone when we moved in. The Grand Ams mud flaps didn't like that! lol.

Here is the open canvas I was talking about! This was after we bought it but before we completely moved in. I got all my stuff from my gf's parents garage (just down the street) into this garage to give her dad some room as he is a high end finish carpenter and likes to work in his garage.

Then around June or July of 2013 I started insulating the walls...

https://sphotos-b-ord.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/943269_10151693637513360_897084414_n.jpg

and sheeting them with 7/16 OSB..

https://sphotos-b-ord.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/998352_10151702584628360_461591572_n.jpg

and I added a second light... it had a 2 bulb T12 and I added a 4 bulb T8. I will definitely buy another 4 bulb T8 to replace the 2 bulb T12 as it ****... lol. Ill save it though. never know where ill want it on a switch somewhere else.

9622740248_82fee602b5_b.jpg

then I started on the ceilings which will get 7/16" OSB also.

the part you saw with no insulation is where my attic door will be. The ladder will be built onto the wall so I just walk right up and swing open the doors and the ladder will continue up into the attic. That's where the peak of the roof is so it gives me the most room and easiest way to get into the attic. Only issue is the first truss is about 18" from the wall and I want the opening to be a total of 4' x 3' so I will need to cut into the truss and box it in so I cant finish the insulation yet...

inside of the garage door before I insulate it.

thanks for looking!! More pictures as I keep working... so everyone knows, I will have about $1000 in insulation and OSB when its done. I did all the manual labor... lol.

I just checked the page for the first time, sorry the pics are large.. I took the links right off my facebook page and you cant shrink them from there.

The bike under the cover is a rolling chassis of an 89 Ninja ZX-10 im fully restoring. Going on about 6-7 years... lol... The other bike is my old 81 Suzuki gs450L I used as a beater bike. Used to do trackdays on a 2006 50th Anniversary R6. Sold it a few years back.

Basically once the ceiling is finished, that's it until next year. I have 0% for a year on everything I bought from Home Depot so I want that paid off before I do anything else. Ill bring one of my old TVs into the garage and start my P90X!!!!!!

Two of my friends had I believe 89 ZX10's! It was actually the same one, they did trade of bikes, so they both owned it for about a year over the last 2yrs.

Good looking start sir. Smaller pics would be ideal next time tho! I had to do a lot of side scrolling!

Yah when I take them off my facebook page, it puts them full size. My free flickr account doesn't hold enough pictures and I have to delete them which removes them from any site or forum they are posted on.

finally started to sheet the ceiling with OSB. HOLY **** does it **** doing it by yourself. Doing it in no larger than 4x4 sheets while I wait for someone to get back with me on if they have a drywall lift I can use.

Nice garage!

I agree that ceiling work definitely stinks, especially working alone. Do you have a tool rental place somewhere nearby? As I recall, it only cost me a few bucks to rent a drywall lift, and you can get a LOT more boards hung in a short amount of time. After doing it the hard way it feels like you're cheating.

Looking forward to more updates...

girlfriends dad and my dad are coming over to help me finish the OSB ceiling and put in the Louisville Aluminum Attic Ladder this Saturday 9/21. Ceiling will be done for the year and all ill need to do is insulate the garage door. Then the garage is completely done for the year. At least ill be able to run a heater and actually feel the heat! lol.

OSB is 90% done. Attic Ladder is in. STOKED!! Just have to put up 3 more pieces of insulation (today after work) then on Saturday my gf's dad is coming back over to hang the last few pieces around the attic ladder and frame it with some finished pine 1x4's around the attic ladder and the 2 windows. Man is it a 100x's better difference with the ceiling finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to recommend the Louisville Aluminum attic ladder for the 24" truss spread ($169 at lowes). It is easy to hang and works extremely well. Especially now that they use gas shocks instead of springs!! I don't have to lightly let it close. Just push up and let is close itself!

Ill post pics after its done Saturday!

forgot to post pics of it with the OSB finished. Also got some pics of the cabinets I scored for free, all painted and ready for a counter top.

here is a better view of the ceiling. You can se the attic ladder on the right near the light.

here are the cabinets I scored for free. Got em sanded and painted. ran 2x4s under them and put some adjustable feet on them to level them and keep them off the ground about 3/4" and to make them easier to move around. The middle cabinet is going to be for the entertainment center 9DVD Player and Receiver for music. I will make glass doors for it. I will be setting a TV on the countertop for the time being until we upgrade our living room and the current 32" will get mounted to the wall garage. Need this for my P90X.

Looks great.

Now get in there and start having fun.

haha thanks! My parents are keeping our Mustang for the winter in their pull barn so we can keep both of our DD's inside for the winter nights so thatll be very nice but I have a feeling 1 car will be out of the garage every night and my 89 Ninja restoration will be taking over 1 spot! Its going on almost 7 years. lol. Making it a sport touring (Concourse style) bike.

before...

her are a couple updated pics... got the cabinets done and countertop put on. Bought the nice 24" deep by 4' wide 5 shelf unit from lowes and put that in, in a 3 shelf next to a 2 shelf set-up so i now have an 8' countertop with 8' more of work space with the shelving set-up. works out nice!! The cabinet with no door in the middle will get a glass door since it will be my media cabinet.

now I just need to set my TV on the countertop and hook up the BluRay player so I can start working out. Got the TapOut XT training to start with then P90X. Both were free so I cant complain!

floor looks extremely dirty b/c the cars have been wet from winter and the water hadn't all evaporated from the floor.

Got my TV and DVD player set up. Couldn't use my bluray player bc it only has hdmi out and the TV doesn't have an hdmi in. So I put my old 5 disc dvd player out there til I get an LCD on the wall. Need to get the glass door for the center cabinet. I'm liking the set up. Working on building my motorcycle bench to put my ninja together on. Been 0 degrees and snow and wind in Ohio lately so I'll be in the house for now. Lol. I don't have a big enough heater yet to work out there in these temps. Only using a space heater and top mount propane heater which is good starting in the high 20's.

Who has the 3-D printer? I was just discussing them with a friend - can they do coloured/clear plastic - like TL lenses, etc.?

Good progress on the garage. My advice to everyone is to get the bikes and garden equipment into a shed - they don't belong in a garage!

My work has the printer. It prints abs plastic in 7 or 8 colors. There are other machine that do metals, clear material, and.more. the metal sintering machines are hundreds of thousands of dollars. U can buy small 3d printers at Staples now. For around a grand.

Disagree with your last sentence.

I think he meant bicycles, not motorcycles, but I don't see any bicycles, so I dunno..

I had a bicycle in the garage in the early pics but I got rid of it b/c it was a POS, lol. I knew he meant bicycles though.

Great shop! I need one of those Yamaha mats.

Perk of working at a shop! We just got in a new mat for our sales floor, it is like 8' x 4' with the Yamaha logo and tuning fork logo! Its awesome! Wish I could get that one too!!!

This is about the coolest idea I've seen on Garage Journal, awesome!

haha thanks!!!!!! Every time I see it in the garage I smile and think "that is so cool", lol. As you can see I still need to paint where the bottom post of the pistol mounts b/c the old handles were larger and tore some paint off when I removed them.

I just went thru your entire garage build and DAAAAAAAAMN!! Your garage is insane and you gave me some ideas! Thanks! We are looking at doing the same with redoing our house (bottom brick on the front only and same to garage) along with the garage to match. The brick really adds character to the outside!

Thank you very much. Glad you were able to get some ideas from it. Initially we were only going to do brick on the front of the house and garage, but then we decided we wanted to go around the entire house at the bottom to give it a different look. Then we found this Novistone stuff, and for the price we decided to go with a full 40 inches around the entire perimeter of the house and the North and East walls of the garage (the South and West walls aren't viewable from the road or yard so it would have been pointless to have it there).

We are on a dead end street so only the front needs it, lol. The alley behind us is open to the other houses but im not worried about what they see, lol. Plus ill have a large porch on the back that will cover the brick so I wont waste the money.

little update. Built my motorcycle bench. all 2x6 with OSB top. That will change to a better top sometime in the future but I needed something built asap. 4X6 legs and nice locking casters. I use a 2x10 board and metal end on the board that I use to load dirt bikes into my pickup to get the bike on the bench. I will have 2x4s running between the legs to keep the legs from crippling when I get the bike built (550+lbs.). Extremely heavy for a sportbike (b/c its an 89 1000)
