You don't need an adapter. You need a VW scan tool to retract the electronic parking brake.

Hmm... Didn't know you could rewind it with an adapter. I usually use VCDS for EPB's on VAG cars. Don't those universal brake rewinding sets have one that fits?

I've heard the newer ones need to be done with a scan tool, or you'll be buying calipers. Haven't seen one in realtime yet though.

It says right in the product description

"To be used in conjunction with electronic park brake tools but not instead of them"

You need a VAGcom or similar tool.

I have a solus ultra which can do it. It makes it quite easy actually, just hook up a battery charger to the car, leave key in position 2 and leave scanner connected while doing the repair.... I just need the twist in adapter now. I have the Lisle 25000 turn in tool, which comes with about 5 adapters but not a 3 prong.
The computer may pull the ebrake in and release tension on the caliper, but you still need to push it in deep to make room for fresh pads.

Damn... Cars are getting ridiculous. Cant even do brakes without a computer. That is amazing.

German engineering! I worked on some 80's VW's and hated it. I can only assume the newer ones have gotten even more oddball and complicated.

Has anyone done brakes on any VW with the electronic e-brake? I have read a few posts on forums about people working on Passats, and those guys used just a C clamp to push the piston back in after using software to retract the electric motor...
I have the piston pusher tools and the twist tool... maybe you dont need to twist the rear caliper in? But then why does that company that I linked to in my original post offer one?

Found another post, appears that cars with Electronic Parking Brake do not need to be twisted in, just pushed in like a front caliper (after the scanner retracts them) Only older Audis with a mechanical cable operated parking brake must be turned in.
No wonder I couldnt find any information about this 3 prong adapter, it doesnt exist! But for some reason it does in europe... who knows. Why would the piston have 3 slots in it? I guess it will remain a mystery.

Just a bit. (and this isn't even a 'new' one..since the Phaeton came out a decade ago.)

This is typical with many German cars!

Folks buy them because they are generally well made, but they are also getting more complex! The Germans seem to misunderstand and think that people actually want to buy a car that needs 15 computers. Big mistake, and you only have to look at the resale value of these big complex cars to realise that!

Just make a well built car with reasonable performance and keep the electronics to one easily replaceable engine management system and we'll all be happy!

Yup, push it straight in. Piece of advice, pull both calipers and put a screw-type retractor on one, do the other side completely, then go back and do the first side.

About a week after the first one I did, the 80ish year old owner of the shop next door comes in asking "Do you have some funky 3 prong caliper adapter? I tried using a bunch of different ones, but they wouldn't do it, even with the impact gun!" I about **** myself laughing as I explained that one, and offered to loan him our Launch. "Naw **** that, I'll just put it back together and send them to the dealer."

Just wanted to update this thread for information purposes. I should have just used my regular pad compressor the first time instead of assuming they needed to be spun in because of the notches on the caliper. The calipers pushed in extremely easily, probably the easiest of any car I have worked on. Working on that Audi was a dream, everything aluminum, no rust. Nice and clean.
