Hum.. is that a cube of foam they carved out? Interesting idea, I wonder what the entire thing looks like.

I've seen kits where they carved out a thick sheet of foam for drawers, typically for military applications.

I'm not certain, but that foam block the tools are mounted in appears to be in one of the cases Huot manufactures that are used by the Military and other sections of the government. The case would likely be either of the two below.

If it is a military caseI wonder if the foam blocks are pre made either in large or small batches for the crews that service particular equipment, or whether that kind of thing is done by individuals to keep track of their tools in the field. It's a good idea though.

Oh good, I was worried this thread would be about underwear.

I agree that the foam looks a bit tacky. The first thought I had was that it'd be worth it to hit the depressions with your color of choice and cover the rest with drawer liner felt.

The idea is interesting but the material is awful. Imagine dirt/grease on styrofoam and all the little whit **** that falls out. Not to mention durability.

Maybe Lilscorpion can machine something out of delrin and sell it. look for is thread on tool organization.

The foam looks like it might be the more durable white type. The foam has an open structure that would likely trap dirt and grease. I've seen it used for things that aren't meant to be disposable as well as heavy duty packaging for shipping.

Those are the old aircraft mechanics toolboxes we used back in the day when I was in the army. The foam was closed cell and pretty rigid. They were a step above the older red toolboxes we used and offered fast toolbox inventories due to the shadowing. The plastic case was **** though. These were also offered as general mechanics tool sets as well as electrical/avionics sets.

I would have thought the cases were metal, or did the army switch to something like the plastic Hardigg cases from Pelican?
